Re: Does Rocketry Work beyond Earth's atmosphere?
Anyway, I'm inclined to think that LEO sats (but no more than that) could be launched by just ballistic rockets, without need for them to work in the vacuum. I've been googling how it all began, with the Sputnik. If we have to believe Wikipedia, it was launched by a R-7 rocket , which was a missile ...

Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$
Interesting... It also seems awkward that back in 1969 they managed to transmit live from the Moon, but they had lost the know-how by 1998; maybe the Apollo engineers had retired by then. But anyway, there was no problem in taking a bulky iMax camera in a high risk spacewalk for fixing the Hubble te...

Re: NASA'S FLAT EARTH DBA STRATEGY
Anyway, I've found that some of the objections in the 'flat earth' videos are quite real (not that I'm a 'flat-earther', of course). For example, the one I'm bringing points to a quite evident flaw in that amazing HD time-lapse shoot in 4K from "the Thing". Namely, the long lasting lightni...

Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$
A possible hypothesis: Could it be something like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Echo? I'm not sure it could be put in orbit with just a ballistic rocket, but let's suppose it can be sent as a very lightweight deflated balloon which once in orbit would inflate to a very BIG size. That would e...

Re: Does Rocketry Work beyond Earth's atmosphere?
Out of my interest and recent skepticism about space travel, I've recently followed "live" in YT two launches: the OA-8 resupply vehicle (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JM5POTQoSXY) and today the JPSS-1 NOAA observation satellite (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wUrNNnkR5Y). Bad luck, as...

Well, maybe they did like with Star Wars, a digitally remastered version.
Also, I think it was noted the really funny orbit that Gemini is following, very apparent in the accelerated version.

Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$
Yes, I also know that... ;) But the epoch data just tell you where the object will be at a given time. But nothing about its attitude relative to the observer, and that's a key parameter. The official version says the ISS it's mainly a tube-shaped object with lots of solar panels attached. Those sho...

Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$
Even more, I think that the brightness of such an irregular object, whose orientation is not easily ascertained, would be extremely hard to predict. I don't know what kind of algorithm is using heavens above, but my take is that brightness prediction would be feasible only for very simple -i.e. sphe...

Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$
But the distance when setting over the horizon is 2.300 kms. And it should be still visible! So, can anyone one imagine spotting a 747 from 2.300 kms. away? Ok, let's concede that it could be a highly reflective object and it would be easier to see against the dark firmament, but still looks pretty...

Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$
You generally won't see anything, except the sun and maybe the moon, right on the horizon due to atmospheric extinction. That's why heavens Above (and other sites) give 10 degrees above the horizon as the point at which it is considered observable. This is around 1440 km away and the math for the 7...

Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$
Even more, if you have a look at a 747 flying at cruise altitude (about 12 km) you'll barely see any details, it's just a speck in the sky. Now let's put our plane in orbit at... 400 km. Would it be so visible from the ground as the purported ISS? Dear Altair, You have no idea of how much I treasur...

Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$
About the 500 tons, it happens that the maximum takeoff weight (that is, fully loaded) of a 747-8 is 442 tons. Funnily enough, the length of both is similar: 73 m. for the ISS, 76 m. for the 747-8. So, we have to believe that such a massive object has been placed in orbit chunk by chunk and assemble...

Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$
I am not the only member looking forward to your exposition on this "implosion" concept. On the other hand, we have to beware of distractions and of becoming space fanboys ourselves. As I have said before, you can either believe NASA is a developer of Star Trek-like supertechnology (Tesla...

Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$
The problem with this is that we cannot ascertain what assumptions can be made. But if we assume that: - Rockets work in a vacuum - The ISS is an object orbiting Earth Then it must be re-boosted from time to time in order to compensate for orbital decay. How is this accomplished? Here is some sort o...
