NASA's new space suit

If NASA faked the moon landings, does the agency have any credibility at all? Was the Space Shuttle program also a hoax? Is the International Space Station another one? Do not dismiss these hypotheses offhand. Check out our wider NASA research and make up your own mind about it all.

NASA's new space suit

Unread post by lux »

NASA has unveiled a new spacesuit prototype called the Z-1 ...
Image
... which just happens to resemble a familiar Disney cartoon character from their 1995 movie “Toy Story.”

More info on the suit here or just search for 'NASA Z-1' for lots more.

They say the suit is intended for use starting in 2015. That will be 20 years after the movie so the kids who fell in love with Buzz Lightyear back in 1995 will be adults in their 20's-30's and all set to swallow whatever bullshit stories NASA dishes out at that time. They will probably also be less likely to mind that NASA's footage of space looks an awful lot like cartoons.

I'm no photo analyst. But the face in the first suit pic seems edited in (see skin color change/suit reflection on neck). Sure looks familiar...

Also, nice cameltoe on the diaper.

We should really try to keep this thread based on factual information, because any attempts at outright humour are nowhere near as entertaining as reality. <_<

Disney and NASA have come together to develop hands-on educational activities, demonstrations, and exhibits centered around the flight of Buzz Lightyear on STS-124, his year aboard the International Space Station (ISS), and his return on STS-128. These activities are designed to encourage children and young adults to pursue their dreams and develop an interest in exploration and discovery.

I feel there may be scale issues with the small astronot in the foreground...and with the ones to the rear !-)

Yes, NASA takes Buzz very seriously. The toy has now been inducted into the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.

Disney has always been about programming children to be good little believers in the bullshit!

This is just unbelievable. NASA Z-1 looks suspiciously like NAsaZ1 (or NAZI) to me. How fitting. B)

Exactly. What a perfectly facile transition from children's cartoon "entrainment" to adults' CGI "reality" Image

Another new space suit on the way:

Image
A futuristic space-suit being developed will take the high altitude adventurer of tomorrow from the total vacuum of outer space, through the searing heat of atmospheric reentry, then down to the surface of the planet earth for a pinpoint landing that even Elon Musk would be envious of and one that Tony Stark, the “Iron Man” himself, would be totally familiar with.
The next step in the Red Bull-shit space opera, I suppose ... with a little help from Iron Man!

More about this latest fairy tale here.

Ah well, the NA$A Z1 has already been superseded, apparently

ILC Dover wins NASA contract for new space suit design
Delaware firm will design next space suit

ILC Dover has received a $4.4 million contract from NASA to design, manufacture and test a next-generation space suit.

The current space suit, designed by ILC in the late 1970s, was designed mainly for space shuttle missions, and later used at the International Space Station, said Phil Spampinato, director of technology development partnerships at ILC.

That suit was built for “micro-gravity” environments, where people working under weightless conditions use their legs mainly to anchor themselves, instead of for walking.

But NASA is now looking to go to Mars, and may consider returning to the moon. This would require suits built for people to walk in, Spampinato said. Those environments have some gravity, although less than on Earth, he said. ...

Why does a spacesuit need to resemble a mountaineering hoist?

Really?
