YUTU freezes to death
Oh well, i guess its game over for China's latest digital space comedy.
According to Italian newspaper la Repubblica, the adventure of the little YUTU ("Jade Rabbit") rover has "after only one month, turned from a dream into a nightmare". Yutu, the newspaper reports, perished "due to the freezing, minus 137° lunar nights".

Oh, well. I'm disappointed. It was looking like a great comedy was in the making with this fake moon mission. Maybe there was just too much recognition of its bogus nature on the internet that they decided to pull the plug and cut their losses.

THE CHINESE "DO IT" COOOLER
If you have, like myself, been reading a bunch of NASA fables over the years, you may have heard of the vital "ablative heat shield" which, allegedly, prevents asstruenots from roasting like pork chops as they re-enter the atmosphere in their capsules - what with the "3000°C+" temperatures they are (purportedly) subjected to.
As the story goes, untold $billions and efforts were spent by NASA to develop this hi-tech, heat-absorbing protective coating without which, we're told, manned spaceflight / and re-entry would be utterly unthinkable - or, well - just plain suicidal. To get an idea of the problem, steel melts at about 1500°C, titanium at 1650°C, but that's not even the primary problem: human flesh (mostly made of water) cooks pretty much at 100°C. So the NASA hoaxers of yore (back when they still feared that the public might laugh their fables out of the door) simply HAD to come up with this "ablative-shield" story - about some magic insulating material (formerly unknown to man) that they supposedly invented to solve this nagging little problem - a "problem" well-known to meteors which simply explode and vaporize as they meet our atmosphere.
Here we see, for instance, the horridly charred 'ablative coating' of a "SOYUZ" capsule (which, we are told, is now the sole and only space vehicle currently capable of safely shuttling asstruenots - three at a time - to and fro the "International Space Station"...):
Over in China, however - this problem doesn't seem to - uh - occur. Here's the happy, "just-landed" Chinese trio of the Shenzou-10 capsule :
And here's their pristine, shiny and ready-to-fly-again capsule - without a trace of soot (or singed metal) :

Hmmm … that's odd because in the previous Shenzhou 9 mission (June 2012) shown in this clip …

.. the capsule appears to be noticeably blackened from the intense heat of reentry! I guess they must have solved that problem for the Shenzhou 10 mission!
Yet as the crew members emerge they seem to have no reluctance to touch the capsule near its scorched skin which was heated to thousands of degrees just minutes before …
They usually seem to avoid photographing the actual heat shield in these PR photographs but we can catch a glimpse of it in the above video as the capsule tumbles on landing …
.. but it seems to be in fine condition showing no apparent effects from the intense heat of reentry! Just nice clean shiny metal! And, the hot "ablative" heat shield leaves no marks on the ground as it strikes it. I guess it must have completely ablated already.
There is also no visible evidence of the effects of this intense heat on the vegetation or on the ground around the spot where the capsule came to rest in any of the photos.
