Not sure how relevant this is but I remember in the late 90s [?] the 'Beeb' constantly showing images of the Taliban destroying the Stone Buddhas in Afghanistan using artillery/explosives until all that was left were giant recesses in the cliff/rock face.grav wrote:Could we throw down some good examples of 'opinion molding' versus 'stimuli reaction' to really paint a full picture?Dcopymope wrote: The main difference is what form of propaganda is used to mold opinions versus what is used to condition the public to react to certain stimuli or events, by creating the psychological climate for it. The latter is Hollywood's job, the former comes after the pre-propaganda phase which is direct propaganda or direct action. Basically, Hollywood's job is not necessarily to mold peoples opinions on anything.
Not long afterwards, 9/11 came along, allegedly carried out by mostly Saudis out of the '19' [not just OBL] and what happens?
Afghanistan is invaded and the Taliban targeted.
The public opinion here was along the lines of 'Mad Taliban, destroying nice pretty statues of Buddha' to 'Bad Taliban, attacking us, let's attack them'.
I believe the public was 'prepped' beforehand to readily accept what was going to transpire.
