Three more absurd maritime "events", meant to remind us of the Titanic anniversary and at the same time of the Concordia and whatever the Concordia represents (the speculative attack on Italy, incidentally, running on the so called "spread" of treasure bonds against the german counterparts, has been revived in the same hours: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-04-1 ... bunds.html).

April 11th: Weather, illness haunt Titanic memorial cruise ship Balmoral

Apparently there is this idiotic commemorative cruise for the Titanic (celebrating the death of 1,500+ people? Sure, why not!), which had to turn back on its course because of one passenger who had a heart attack. As we are told, on board of this ship there are all these relatives of the titanic victims... which is really, really a joke.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/04/ ... 5K20120410
The MS Balmoral, which set out from Southampton, England, on Sunday in hopes of holding a memorial service at the spot of the ill-fated ship's disastrous last moments, encountered dangerous weather as it crossed the Irish Sea and was eventually forced to turn around because of a passenger who was experiencing heart problems.
(...)
The Balmoral's Titanic Memorial Cruise is scheduled to last 12 nights, with the highlight of the trip being a memorial service to mark the 100th anniversary of the Titanic's sinking above where the ship currently rests on the sea floor. Relatives of those who lost their lives after the ship hit an iceberg and sank as well as relatives of survivors of the sinking are on board to participate in the cruise.

Idiotic "relatives of victims" holding idiotic postcard of "victim": http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/apr/1 ... -passenger
We are told they are seeking "closure", a hundred years after the fact. <_<

April 12th: Cargo ship East Castle spills 15 tons of fuel into the sea in front of Taranto, Italy.

No article available in english language, here's one in Italian: http://www.corriere.it/cronache/12_apri ... 0046.shtml
Apparently the accident is attributed to, once again, human error. <_<

Speculating about the name, "East Castle": it made me immediately think of China and of the recent talks between Italy and China promoted by italian PM Monti:

April 13th (friday): Unnamed Russian cargo ship anchors 300 meters off the coast of Giglio Island

Image
from http://www.corriere.it/cronache/12_apri ... 0046.shtml

Apparently, "the vessel was carrying grain to Sardinia when it hit rough weather off Giglio and had to halt its course."
"Grain" is so symbolic. <_<

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldne ... close.html

Strangely enough, the only picture available for this event is the microscopic one you see above. You would think that by now the people on Giglio Island should be on guard with cameras ready for any ship that gets too close. Even more strangely, I still have to find the name of this alleged Russian vessel to be mentioned anywhere. Perhaps it never even existed. Just a quickie of the media to remind us with fakery of fateful friday 13th. :puke:

[p.s. I have changed the title of this thread since Time goes by... and a more descriptive title might be needed for future readers :) ]

Friday the 13th in January, Concordia.

Friday the 13th (today) an unnamed cargo ship - both at Giglio.

Apparently the word 'giglio' means 'lily', and is the symbol of Florence.
THE MEANING & SYMBOLISM OF

lily

While white lilies symbolize chastity and virtue – and were the symbol of the Virgin Mary’s purity and her role of Queen of the Angels – as other varieties became popular, they brought with them additional meanings and symbolism as well. Peruvian lilies, or alstroemeria, represent friendship and devotion, white stargazer lilies express sympathy and pink stargazer lilies represent wealth and prosperity. Symbolizing humility and devotion, lilies of the valley are the 2nd wedding anniversary flower.

As the flowers most often associated with funerals, lilies symbolize that the soul of the departed has received restored innocence after death.

Yet as suggested back in this same thread (http://cluesforum.info/viewtopic.php?p=2364341#p2364341) according to wickedpedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giglio_Island) the name Giglio does not come from "Lily" but from the greek word "Aigýllion", "little goat" that refers to the goats that populated the island. Goats are sacrificial, I guess. Scapegoats. The goat poster next to Moro's body. The head of the goat... etc. Maybe all these symbols, including the lily, agree in the sick minds of the maniacs who invent this stuff. Or maybe Giglio island was just a convenient place, a controlled environment, especially in January.

Possibly of interest: I just read on this touristic page that Giglio island...
... is also site of an Etruscan shipwreck, dating to the early Iron age, c. 600 BC. The cargo of the ship included copper and lead ingots, iron spits, amphorae and a Corinthian helmet. Even a wooden writing tablet with stylus was preserved. The finds are almost completely lost now.
"Lost" in italian lingo means "stolen and sold on the black market". <_<

Pay attention to these historic records:

July 25/26 1956 Sinking of Transatlantic Ship "Andrea Doria" without a clear cause (January 14 1953 maiden voyage)

July 26 1956 Legge 859 8,9 miliardi di Lire for a project for a new group of Transatlantic ships (Leonardo, Raffaello, Michelangelo).

December 7 1958 Launch of TS Leonardo

A replay?

Hey everyone.
This is just to keep count of the absurd repeated shipwrecks along the italian coasts.
Here's the latest, this time, and once again, at an island in the Tyrrhenian sea of Tuscany:

Cargo ship runs aground off Elba, no damage

From http://firenze.repubblica.it/cronaca/20 ... a-36338328

Italian article with some pictures: http://firenze.repubblica.it/cronaca/20 ... a-36338328

(For once I really don't like the ELA here, lots of very clear "rainbowing" around the ship: http://fotoforensics.com/analysis.php?i ... f3b.112367
See this one too: http://fotoforensics.com/analysis.php?i ... 1f2d.85717)

The mechanics of such an idiotic accident are yet to be given. This would be a turkish boat carrying iron to Algeria.

According to marinetraffic, there is no "Mersa 2" ship, just a "Mersa 1", which is the same ship but of green color: http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipde ... =271002070
I smell yet another concordia reminder/insurance scam ahoy. <_<

I find it ironic how "ordinary" people are chastised for running some random, desperate insurance scams, yet the "world elite" is running calculated, cold-blooded insurance scams on an almost weekly basis!

Do these shipwrecks have similar objectives to the fake acts of piracy off the Horn of Africa? Acts of piracy which, incidentally, have stopped just as suddenly as they started..

There is an unprecedented crisis in shipping. The Baltic Dry Index, the chief measure of sea freight rates on bulk, has plummeted to a quarter century low because of the global economic collapse. Entire shipping fleets are moored up because there is literally no trade to ply any more. While those cargo ships are off the high seas, they don't need insuring.

Maritime insurers are losing huge amounts of money because of this. The world's largest maritime insurance market is based in the City of London, Lloyds of London.

In an interview with the Financial Times, the chairman of Lloyds, Peter Levene, candidly revealed that the Somali pirates were good for business. Levene also expressed his concern for their welfare, stressing that no harm should come to them, and that ransoms should always be paid by shipowners.

Image

Thanks to the phony buckaneers, maritime insurance premiums have soared. Struggling shipowners have even contemplated the 6,000 mile detour around the Cape of Good Hope simply to avoid the fake pirates operating in the Gulf of Aden. The pirates, we are told, are armed with rocket-propelled grappling hooks and other high-tech goodies that you would expect only a special forces unit to possess..

Piracy blow to ships' insurance
Financial Times (London)
November 24, 2008 2:00 am

By Andrea Felsted and James Wilson in London

Shipowners and operators are set to face higher insurance costs because of the increase in piracy off Somalia, insurers have warned.
..
Shipowners are also making more use of "kidnap and ransom" insurance - normally used for corporate executives sent to danger zones - for their crews.

Dieter Berg, head of marine reinsurance at Munich Re, the world's biggest marine reinsurer, said shipowners were seeing rising numbers of hotspots for piracy around the world, as well as escalating violence.

"It is an extremely brutal business. There is nothing romantic [about piracy]. There is no Johnny Depp around. These are real hardcore criminals," he said.

Simon Beale, London underwriting director at Amlin, a Lloyd's insurer, said the cost of protecting against a pirate attack had already been rising to reflect the increased risk. He expected the price of cover to continue rising.

Attacks on ships off Somalia - most recently the Sirius Star, the biggest oil tanker seized by pirates to date - comes with the price of marine insurance rising because of large claims associated with hurricanes and disruption to the energy industry, Mr Berg said.

He said there was also reduced reinsurance capacity because of the global financial turmoil.

Although these would be the main drivers of "double digit" increases in the cost of marine reinsurance, an upswing in claims from pirate attacks was a contributing factor.

The price of protecting a ship or its cargo against piracy through insurance was rising, he said, and this would feed the reinsurance market.

Underwriters estimate that shipowners have paid about $20m in ransoms to pirates this year, substantially pushing up the cost of claims.

Lord Levene, chairman of Lloyd's, said insurers did not want to pay ransoms but this appeared to be the only means of resolving incidents. "The real solution is to stop these people from operating. That is what we have to concentrate on," he said, calling for more resources for naval forces.

Insurers said that while shipowners and operators faced the prospect of higher policy prices, there was no risk of cover against pirate attacks being withdrawn.

"Lloyd's job is . . to take on risks from industry around the world. This is a big risk and it is for us to do it. We have to price that cover commercially," said Lord Levene.

So the house arrest of the Master has been lifted. http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2012 ... rrest.html

Question still remains why the Costa cruise ship/Master made a close pass from south off Isola del Giglio at late, dark 21.45 hrs on 13 January as there was nothing to see on that cold, dark evening. The port was hidden behind the coast line. You/Master could hardly see the island itself from the ship. It was all dark outside. On ship most people were wining/dining/etc.
Media tells us that the Master was going to give the island a little kiss ... in the dark????
IMHO he was driving his ship straight on the island ... but missed. http://heiwaco.tripod.com/news8.htm

This unrelated "photo" of MV Grecia (7873 G.T, built 1973) came to light [1]

Formerly, the MV Espresso Grecia and before that the MV Espresso Livorno, she was apparently scrapped 2010 in Aliaga [2],

Hmm, here she is being dismantled, apparently..

Unsurprisingly, the "photographer" left nothing to find through ELA [3]. But notice how the dockside is in clear focus. And so too the cross-sectioned end of the ship. Yet anything much beyond that is clouded in thick sea mist. Fancy that!

I wonder where she really is today?! Did the Grecia ever exist?!
