Norman Atlantic incident, 28 December 2014

Unread post by nonhocapito »

Happy New Year everyone, and to you Simon especially! Was walking by, thought I would stick my head in for a quick hello. :)

Just a short comment on yet another italian ship accident, the "Norman Atlantic" fire & wreck (bizarre name for a ferry routing the Ionic sea).

Image

You can read about it on wiki here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS_Norman_Atlantic
(Please have a look at the wiki page history. The page was created on December 24! 4 days before the tragedy, on the day before Christmas, this guy felt the need to create a page for this ship.)

Throughout this story we had a quite forceful reiteration of the number 11 and its multiples, before the numbers settled on different figures. At first I thought, here's the media using a real story to make it look like a psyop -- not impossible. But' I'm not so sure. The absurdity of the whole event and of some of the details, such as the people "turned into animals" or the hero heli pilots, makes me wonder.

44, 33, 55, 222, 411, 22 ... entirely accidental numbers, wikipedia! (from http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?tit ... =640285644)

But what moved me to come here and write a few lines was really this picture of the captain, one "Argilio Giacomazzi". Here it is:

First: that white thing hanging from the wall between the windows. Doesn't it really want to look like a freemason compass?

Maybe it's my paranoia. (Like that picture of the Pope with the hand-in-jacket gesture... the Pope is good guy right?)
But more interesting is what happens here with his left arm, and that stiff shirt sleeve that doesn't have the same tuck as the right sleeve, with an arm in a possibly bizarre position.

Argilio could be a sim with a face borrowed from young De Niro... or most likely another actor-poseur-agent in need of a background picture where he looks like a seaman, which was forged for him. Irregardless. The character is being sold by the media as the anti-Schettino since he allegedly remained on board the ship until the end.
(Psyops change, the bullshit stays the same.)

Here's the inevitable interview with the daughter, a must for italian psyops (cf. the palazzo Chigi psyop): http://video.repubblica.it/dossier/rogo ... 750/186655
She hides her face for no reason whatsoever except probably the agent considered it bothersome to show up a face that could be used in a better psyop.

As for the videos of the event itself! this one from repubblica.it seems pretty interesting and should be probably torn apart for fakery:

More stuff on YT: https://www.youtube.com/results?gl=GB&s ... n+atlantic
Here's one showing people walking about while two steps from them flames engulf the inside of the ship:

Back to the characters in this story: some are pretty good, especially the evidently quite famous soprano Dimitra Theodossiou who was saved by helicopter (it makes so much more traumatic if a musician is involved! see the violinist on the Concordia, etc).

Why on earth wasn't this valuable member of the musical elite travelling by plane to go from Greece to Italy?
This is anyone's guess, but whatever.

"The show must go on, http://www.ctvnews.ca/world/show-must-g ... -1.2167661

Here's the story, enjoy: http://www.ctvnews.ca/world/show-must-g ... -1.2167661
with more juice here, in italian: http://www.corriere.it/cronache/14_dice ... cfb4.shtml
and here : http://firenze.repubblica.it/cronaca/20 ... 103940676/ (particularly enjoyed for the scene where another passenger slaps her repeatedly on the face, for hours, to keep her awake. A shove wasn't enough? Really?)
And this one: http://www.classicalite.com/articles/14 ... copter.htm
Theodossiou was one of the most vocal survivors of the Norman Atlantic fire, willingly recounting to anyone who would listen how there was no fire alarm, how the crew provided no instructions to frantic passengers, and how the passengers themselves pushed and shoved to get onto the coveted helicopter baskets.
She will now sing in the Nabucco. FYI, two words about the opera:
Theodossiou plays the lead female soprano, Abigaille, in the Verdi classic being performed at a stadium in the Adriatic port city of Rimini. "Nabucco" tells the story of how the Jews are conquered and exiled by the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar; Abigaille is his eldest daughter and is involved in one of the romantic subplots.

Theodossiou was adamant that the show - and life - must go on, despite the terrifying experience.

"I am a warrior," she said.
From wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nabucco:
The best-known number from the opera is the "Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves," Va, pensiero, sull'ali dorate / "Fly, thought, on golden wings," a chorus which is regularly given an encore in many opera houses when performed today.

(...)

Scene 2: The banks of the River Euphrates

The Israelites long for their homeland (Va pensiero, sull'ali dorate / "Fly thought on golden wings; [Fly and settle on the slopes and hills]"). The high priest Zaccaria once again exhorts them to have faith: God will destroy Babylon. The Israelites are inspired by his words.
This is considered Verdi's "Jewish" opera, but I'd rather call it his "zionist" one.

...Well, this is probably pretty much all the research I can muster on this holiday. Have a good one everyone!

Good to hear from you again NoHo!

Looks like Italian bulshit writers specialize in these "sea dramas" maybe due to the increasing number of ships that have to be taken out of service there :)

p.s.
(it makes so much more traumatic if a musician is involved! see the violinist on the Concordia, etc).
Do you remember Achille Lauro "hijacking" in 1985 ? Polish singer Piotr Gąsowski was a contracted entertainer onboard according to the official version.

@fbenario et al: To make a long story short last year I got a new job far away from home and it's been quite difficult to keep up with the rest of things, including this forum. I still don't have much time to come back here and browse either! Also some of the situations and dynamics over here I really couldn't handle, I guess (my limit). Anyway I'm still around... :)

@bostonterrierowner: yeah, it's like the story-writing is always the same... while on one hand it makes sense that there are entertainers on a ship, in this particular case we are talking about a passenger! who happens to be an internationally renowned soprano! travelling on a ferry from Patras to Pescara mostly meant for truck drivers and immigrants! When plane tickets through Europe are so cheap! and obviously paid for by the impresario or tour manager!
I mean everything is possible but this really sounds like a planted character meant to lend credibility and add drama to an otherwise forgettable story.

So good to hear from you, Nonho - Happy new Year to you too ! :)

Here's one Sokrat Qendro - a "Robbie Parker-styled", alleged Albanian survivor from the ferry's horrifying / harrowing inferno ... whether one understands Italian or not, does this guy's demeanor evoke the proverbial "duper's delight", or what?

The last bit of news in this story is that upon inspection of the wreck they couldn't find any more bodies. http://www.corriere.it/foto-gallery/cro ... 48ef.shtml

Hence the count of victims stays at "11 victims ascertained, of which 9 taken to Italy".

11, 9? Really? are these the number you entirely by accident want to write down, dear journalist? :puke:

And also, here's a bit about the Soprano being hailed and cheered at the "Nabucco" premiere in Ancona. A couple of pictures:

Yes those are all the captive jews in Babylon vowing revenge. As explained, it is entirely coincidental or otherwise insignificant that two days after the accident, after having stayed overboard for more than 18 hours in full winter, Dimitra Thedossiou started rehearsing and later was Abigaille in Verdi's "zionist" play Nabucco. <_<

p.s. also let me attempt to draw a brief political scenario: Following the now necessary new early elections in Greece, there is a chance Greece will leave the Euro, as admitted by Berlin recently.
As a metaphorical, psychological reading of the stakes in the situation, we have a ship wreck of a Greek vessel going from Greece to Italy, with a Greek soprano onboard who is being cheered in Italy -- an Italian captain who does what he's supposed to, a slacking shady Greek maritime company, and heroes among the Italian army rescue forces: a message perhaps, to the Italians, not to even dream doing what Greece is doing, that they are on the right track with the EU? To the Greek, to show how inadequate they are to walk on their own? And why is the burning ship called "Atlantic"?
