Re: Chernobyl.

I had 2 children from Ukraine for two months Aug/Sept 2011 on "exchange". These were children of the children who were part of the Chernobyl evacuation. They weren't from Chernobyl itself, I believe they were from Pripiat. I have no idea if it was really a nuclear disaster, but something happened. One of the mothers had thalidomide type arm deformities, and her child had survived leukemia (had to be seen by a specialist here at Sick Kids in London while he was here), and the other child had hydrocephalus, and the stent was replaced while she was here. And damn, did they look really sick. Both of their fathers were dead from cancer (I cannot substantiate). We had a great time, and spent so much time just doing "kid" stuff. Attended the Ukrainian festival in Toronto, where all of the exchange children met up, and it was....interesting. A lot of physical disabilities and cerebral palsy like mannerisms.

At first I thought the whole exchange thing was a scam by the Ukraine to get money, etc. But we didn't have to pay for the kids to come over, or go back. We received a stipend for the two months and just had to house them. Their medical care was also paid for.

So something really screwed up happened. I have no idea what.

Now you got me thinking. Thanks...

Absolutely, I was only thinking about this last night. There were maybe thousands of Russian kids flown to Ireland in the years following "Chernobyl", and it went on for many years, it still might be going on. My ex-sister-in-law had two kids every year, and I think there was some financial arrangement, what, I've no idea.

I have no first hand information about casualties or deformities or deaths, except I know the kids were here!

edit/ Yes, it appears to be still happening http://www.chernobylchildren.ie/host_ch ... ldren.html

Well it could be entirely possible to simply collect children with these kind of diseases and send them off to foreign countries, where nobody speaks their language properly, and have them pretend to be from somewhere they are not. Pretending to be victims of a nuclear disaster that maybe, just maybe, never happened -- or never had the disastrous consequences that are described.

Ukraine is not such a poor country. Why they should send their kids to Ireland or Italy at all? As if they could not take care of them in their capital city, or the resorts they certainly have, or worse come worse, send them to Russia, a very friendly and welcoming nation where they speak almost the same language?
This does not remind one of charity as much as propaganda (actually the two things always converge, but that's another story).
One thing is certain: If anyone could fall for this, it certainly would be us "westerners", with our feeling of reality and common sense being reduced dramatically every day.

I suspect the radiation hoax is a pretext for shutting down these installations which will then be a pretext for declaring a "global power shortage" or some such.

Perhaps the "Nuclear" Power Generating Industry is nothing more than a bunch of steam turbines, and they are shutting them down before the public get wind, if you pardon the unintended pun, of it, having extracted trillions of pounds, dollars, marks, and yen from them. They will roll over more easily if it deemed to be hazardous and hopefully forget about financing the "elite" assholes.

The Debris were not as big as shown on T.V. and the radiation needs to be exaggerated -- if the radiation was ever a problem to begin with. I am unsure of the rationale for the radiation hoax. My first thought is that we need more government monitoring of water and food, which means more taxes or something like that. Also an excuse to explain prices in grain or other agricultural commodities. Also Also farmland and ocean space may be restricted and then consolidated by TPTB to make larger farms or ocean farming operations -- putting the small farmer or fisherman out of business. The whole thing was pre-engineered to maximize profit and hardship on the average Japanese. They even hope to get play in the United States where all the ocean water flows to.

One thing I have posted on nuclear issues. That the Number 4 and Number 5 economies of the world both have decided at the drop of a hat to discontinue nuclear power and import more and more natural gas. This issue will hence raise the rent on natural gas in the long term. I bet that was the major issue. Germany of all places decided that they would discontinue nuclear. Why did Germany wait until Japan had the issue? Why not after Soviet Union blew one up? I contend that the growing problem is larger chain hydrocarbons, bigger than methane. So they are drilling tons of holes and sucking out the ethane, propane, butane from these gas wells instead of extracting from oil traditionally -- this growing trend to acquire longer chain hydrocarbonds means natural gas (methane) is an industrial waste product, hence the lowish price. So they need to make markets for methane. Nuclear is toast.

No need to release much radiation. Just enough TV, internet and newspaper horror to shut in nuclear in Japan and Germany.

Dear Whatsgoingon,

Pardon the pun - but I really appreciate your rational and down-to-earth views re: what's going on concerning this planet's energy-related matters. Thanks for your consistently acute and interesting insights. Your angle of analysis of the woes of our world are, imho, extremely relevant - since they provide plausible answers to the current trend of nuclear-plants bashing. I submit this guy's views for consideration. He's not wonderfully articulate or eloquent - but please listen to his take:

Michio Kaku <_< wrote: The latest from Fukushima is, and I was shocked when I saw this…

We know there’s been partial meltdowns before, TMI, Chernobyl. The core collapses but still some of it is intact, it’s a partial meltdown.

The latest result from Fukushima is the nuclear power plant suffered at 100% liquification.

The core completely liquified. There’s nothing left. There’s no hook.

There’s no remaining collapsed core, the core completely liquified.

Huh?

Black substance five times more radioactive than Chernobyl-Belarus mandatory evacuation zone (MORE ALARMISM)

A local citizen’s group found this and had it analyzed by Prof. Yamauchi from Kobe university. He measured 243,000 Bq/Kg of cesium and the surface dose was 2μSv/h.

Mr. Ishikawa, the chairman of citizen’s group states, the black substance is now everywhere in Tokyo, and it moves by wind or rain. :o

Roughly estimating, the soil around the black substance is contaminated as 15,600,000 Bq/m2 (cesium134/137).

In Belarus, the place where is more contaminated than 1,480,000Bq/Kg (cesium137) was defined as mandatory evacuation area.

To double the Belarus standard to make it close to the total of cesium 134 and 137, it becomes 2,960,000Bq/m2.

The graph to compare Tokyo to the mandatory evacuation area in Tokyo is below, which shows the contamination situation around Hirai Station is worse than no-man’s zone of Belarus by 527%.

What is a baby and its parent doing in an area that is 5x more radioactive than the Chernobyl-Belarus mandatory evacuation zone? Shouldn't they be writhing with radioactive poisoning?

The world had not choice but to pay attention.

People have said that we must gather expertises from around the world in order to solve the current problem.

Regarding Fukushima, this has to happen, don’t you think?

Indeed. As you say, there is no time for silly arguments.

If anything happens, this is not just about the end of Japan, probably start of the end of the world.

I would like them to realise that we are in such crisis situation.

Let's see ... how many ends of the world does that make? I've lost count.

But, I'm pretty sure the world will end several times before THAT end of the world happens, so we're OK.
