The sim software - who has it?

Unread post by hoi.polloi »

Is it in Switzerland ...? I stumbled upon a tumblr on this site: http://www.nolayout.com/faund/faund-7-in-your-face/ which is supposedly a neutral magazine host called "NO LAYOUT" and it was created for "fashion" and "art" magazines. Who created "NO LAYOUT"? Well, we'll get into that later.

First, let's look at this magazine hosted on the site. This magazine is based in Switzerland by Daniel Pianetti and Renato Zülli. Address: Rue Centrale 8, 1003 Lausanne, Switzerland. Their Internet site is http://www.faund.net and their tumblr site for the seventh issue is "In Your Face" http://iyf.tumblr.com/

Their magazine cover has a pyramid and eye on the cover, signifying either they are ignorant of its negative connotations or they endorse/enjoy the symbol often linked to oppressive neo-nazi/neocon groups. It is unclear why they would use it otherwise.

Now if you go to that last link - the tumblr - you will see the pics published in this magazine's seventh issue.
Many questions are raised but a few particularly come to my mind:

1. What is the point of this online magazine "In Your Face" (with the pyramid eye) if the tumblr site serves the same purpose?
2. What is the point of the tumblr site?
3. What is the point of the NO LAYOUT web site since Internet sites already basically do what they claim is so innovative (hosting magazines on the Internet)?

My answers:

1. What is the point of this "In Your Face" issue of the online magazine copy "Faund"? I think "In Your Face" are trying to inoculate people against fake images. Some of them look just atrocious. Some of them have "missing pixels" that you can see through which act funny (http://www.fau.edu/orientation/images/C ... _Lynch.jpg). Each picture seems to have a different location but some are from odd academic sites like Perdue (who produced the false "airplane crash simulation") and places like http://www.zippyflashback.com (if you go to that site you get this: http://www.stealincovers.com/ - which looks like an intelligence front of some kind that boasts "We steal everything") and yet they are all conveniently looking quite similar despite their "different" origins. "In Your Face" magazine appears to be a way of masking the tumblr site as something innocuous and genuine rather than the sinister creation it can be perceived as -- someone deliberately confusing people with false pictures and re-inforcing vicsim imagery.

2. What is the point of the tumblr site? Same as the "In Your Face" magazine. They are portions of the same thing. It separates the information about the site in two locations while appearing legit - their physical Swiss address in the "magazine" and the sources of the imagery on the "tumblr". They are trying to be open about being deceptive. So the question is - does the author know they are "safe" behind the Daniel NO LAYOUT site or are they risking public contact?

3. What is the point of the NO LAYOUT web site? Do they know they are hosting a potentially dangerous psy-op weapon? I wonder ... well, here is an interview with their creator. Coincidentally, the creator of the site actually hosts his own Swiss magazine "Faund" (which is the "zine" I mentioned above that hosts the "In Your Face" imagery that is just a receptacle for these goofy looking images of "people" that Daniel's friend "found")! http://rhizome.org/editorial/3928#more

So let's see. A guy named Daniel Pianetti ("Dan Planets"?) created a media receptacle to promote "art" magazines, but he himself is behind one of the magazines that he publishes on his own site. And that magazine, in turn, is not actually a magazine but usually just a tumblr web site that links to pictures? And one of the issues is a tumblr site called "In Your Face" that links to sim pictures?

It's like they are trying to bury their sim images in various different contexts in order to make the sims seem overwhelmingly "everywhere" and therefore more "real".

Yet, if you simply go to the addresses on the tumblr site, you quickly find that those web sites look like the Memorial Scam web sites we have been seeing - connected to academia, businesses, broken links and limited hangout sites that are completely undeserving of our trust.

So is Dan Planets even a real guy? A protector of the "In Your Face" site? And who is behind all these funky pics?

The magazine cover of FAUND #7

Perhaps the entity behind FAUND #7 is just a "friend" of Daniel. Perhaps they are a perp who contacted Daniel and asked to be printed by Daniel. Daniel credits the zine to "GTU" which is the same link given for "Amalia" and "her" collection of images at the tumblr site. So this tumblr person has two names - GTU and Amalia. Which is it? What does it mean? How did they find these pictures with broken links? Why do they all look like they were created by the same person/team?

Here is Daniel's web site: http://danielpianetti.com/
Note that he is based in "New York/Switzerland"

His link roll (http://noteblog.danielpianetti.com/) is strangely ambivalent/infatuated with authority - Berlusconi pics, smoking towers, and the comment "the inclusion of a high quality graphic of the fbi seal on wikipedia is particularly problematic" http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com ... 5BNsMG8%3D

Here is GTU/Amalia's full site: http://iyf.tumblr.com/archive

Is Swiss Daniel just an artsy goofball who got involved with GTU/Amalia or is he a collaborator/enabler?

fbenario, want to Facebook this Daniel/Faund/NO LAYOUT thing and see if we can get in touch with GTU/Amalia through it?

I put all three items in the FB search box. There is only one Daniel Pianetti, with no info publicly available, and only 204 FB friends (most of whom look to be of college age).

The only response to faund is the same faund.net address you have, and there is no response to NO LAYOUT, unfortunately.

I think I found faund - http://www.facebook.com/faundmagazine

Its link number on the found site is http://www.facebook.com/pages/faund/179013777829

Would you mind giving them a try? If worse comes to worse, I can just try e-mailing [email protected] but I think Facebook would give us a better "portrait" of this Daniel character to see if their tumblr contact is a real individual.

Please consider that if you go to the tumblr site (http://iyf.tumblr.com/archive) and you actually click on any of the pictures, it brings you to masonic, rotary-club or fake-looking web sites. They seem to have been created specifically to badly back up these most heinous-looking bogus sims. Either they have people making lazy projects through programs like this ("If you can type, you can make movies" site http://www.xtranormal.com/makemovies/) or they have some special program pumping out a bunch of readable-looking bullshit. However, I do not believe any of these are real people and there are some fake sites and some "real" sites backing these fake people up.

The sims are going outta control!

When I tried to send Pianetti a friend request I got a FB popup telling me it wouldn't send the friend request (since I don't know Pianetti personally) 'in order to prevent misuse of FB'.

This is the only info available on the Faund page.

Weird. "GTU" huh?

Alright; I'll give them an e-mail but this is odd. They stop at #7 on your Faund page and I can't get all "100 faces" to load in the magazine edition ...
Hi,

I am researching faces on the Internet and I noticed you credit Amalia/GTU in her contributions to Faund #7.

I am really intrigued by the collection on that tumblr - do you have any contact information for the producer of that tumblr? In the zine, you mention that her name is Amalia. I was wondering if they have a web site with even more creative efforts or if they can be hired for anything. And I was wondering how she contacted you in order to get her stuff in Faund #7. And would you be interested in making another one like it?

I have found some really truly amazing fake Internet faces that might serve as a good sequel to "In Your Face" if you are interested. If you are interested, I'd love to tell you all about it.

Please reply!
Thanks,
HoiPolloi
If Dan is legit, maybe he'd be interested in producing a Vicsim collection zine - wouldn't that be something?

Very interesting stuff. This is a great find, Hoi. Just to speculate, the swiss guy might really not be aware of the fact that sim people can be created. Maybe he just published something for "Amalia"... Regardless, I imagine the booklet of sim-faces (no doubt, oh no doubt these are sim-faces...), published as it was in September, being used as a gift at a media-fakery event (guess on which date) held for people in the know. Professionals of fakery who at this point I am sure think of themselves as artists...

He replied with what felt to me was a considered response to my inquiry. I think Dan Planets and his co-creator are artistic people with a good sense of humor. I don't know if they are all that aware about their friend Amalia, though. And they weren't all that willing to explore the "mistrust vs. trust" issue in regards to Internet fakery technology.

In the USA, for instance, there are many people whose perfect covers are 'innocent 20-something nice person' who are genuinely nice people but, for whatever reason, are rushed through a degree or training or whatever in order to put them in a position of power.

Another possibility is that the sim-creator is not Amalia, but Amalia doesn't realize what she/he/it has actually uncovered.
