The motherlode of improbably-iconic imagery?

I think I should direct you all to have a look at the photographic imagery site http://www.retronaut.com/

You won't be disappointed. Please have a look now, or very soon.

Like me, you'll be immediately struck by the website's motto 'See the past like you wouldn't believe'

Just what earth do we have here? A layered confection of impossibly well-selected photographs from across the ages (perhaps) or what? Surely at the least this has to have been deftly-combined with skillful fakes? Absolutely breathtaking- is it largely an uber-album of Gumpian constructs, a homage to Ripley, or something else completely different?

There also appears to be some level of drill-down options...I made a brief visit into the Obama family photo album, and came back out scared.

Very interesting site, indeed! I just found this gem:
The remote ancestors of today´s simmers sure got off to an early start!
