People cheered for the bombing of Belgrade; the bombing of Tripoli; the bombing of Mogadishu. They did because the media told them those were good "humanitarian" things. The idea of war being sold as a reputable act of peace-keeping goes a long way back.

Kony 2012 is just a step up: to raise the level of awareness of a given situation, to reach the persuasion objects more quickly, they now deem the system ready to use "viral" internet campaigns to higher ends, because the response and relevance can be pumped up so much and so quickly (like the whole "Anonymous" experience teaches).

A recent effort to push military intervention happened with Darfour via those Hollywood scumbags like Clooney and Jolie, but in that case they did not manage to create sufficient artificial outrage, probably because people tend not to buy their phony ass-faces that much anymore. Kony 2012 seem to be a test-run for a new "all-internet" approach to the same ends, which is also probably very cheap and manageable.

Of course, it is not exempt from ludicrousness:

And so it goes.
Social Media Scam Alert: Top Ten Ways to Tell Kony is Phony. The Hidden Agenda is to Invade Africa"

Almost everything is wrong with this simple picture, from the missing histories and hidden motives of storytellers and players to false statements of processes and problems real and unreal on both sides of the Atlantic. In fact, Kony 2012 is not a search for justice. Kony 2012 is a corporate-style PR and military psy-ops campaign, a cynical hoax engineered to justify US and Western military intervention to control the incredibly lucrative oil, mineral, water and strategic resources of the heart of Africa. The video tells viewers not to study history, but to make it. Kony 2012 does not promote “awareness “. It relies on and promotes ignorance and smug racism.

Black Agenda Report is far from the first or the only news source to point that Kony 2012 is a warmongering hoax, and we certainly won't be the last. As our contribution, we here offer our top ten reasons why Kony is phony.

Reason #10: Invisible Children is funded by a core of notorious right wing donors including the Discovery Institute, which Bruce Wilson fingered in a March 11 Talk 2 Action piece as the leading funder of efforts to promote the replacement of biological sciences in schools with “intelligent design,” along with the Caster Foundation and the National Christian Foundation, all prominent backers of anti-gay referenda, politicians and initiatives in the United States and around the world. The Ugandan regime of Yoweri Museveni is a favorite of theirs for having passed legislation making it a criminal offense to be gay, punishable by a life sentence. Credible African journalists like Keith Harmon Snow have also alleged that Invisible Children’s white and male leaders have direct personal connections to US intelligence agencies.
...
Reason #6: Threats of massive foreign intervention into civil conflict do not bring adversaries to the table. Instead they make it unnecessary for those on whose side the foreigners intervene to negotiate at all, and leave nothing for the other side to negotiate over. Uganda needs an end to violence, and resources devoted to building its civil society, not more military aid.

Reason #5: The United States, the other “good guy” in Kony 2012's imaginary world basically invented the modern African child soldier in the late 1970s and early 80s, so their commitment to “ending child soldiers” is a bit suspect.
...
Reason #4: Depending on movie stars and celebrities is the precise opposite of building the backbone and habits of a vibrant and self-aware civic movement.

This kind of so-called activism reinforcing a slavish worship of celebrity culture, acceptance of corporate marketers who tell us what to eat, wear, covet, consume or shun and convince us it was our idea, not theirs. The real deal is that FaceBook, Twitter and much of crowd-sourced culture are fundamentally the master's tools, clicktivism, not activism.

It's never easy, and may not even be possible for slaves to free themselves with the master's tools. That ain't what they were designed for. Most of those forwarding and FaceBooking the Kony 2012 video, including some of the celebrities, as Keith Harmon Snow points out, probably can't find Uganda on a map.

Reason #3: When both corporate parties, the entire corporate media universe, a constellation of celebrities and movie stars, all the right wing and much of the establishment liberal church along with the whole bag of bipartisan foreign policy experts agree on the need for decisive military action, you can bet the course of wisdom and truth is just about always in the opposite direction.

Dear All,

I don't know if it can be considered as a clue, but while watching the "Kony 2012 Invisible Children" video the 2nd time, something jumped out right at me!

full link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4MnpzG5Sqc

It starts at 1:35.
Let me quote the narrative word-by-word:
THE NEXT 27 MINUTES ARE AN EXPERIMENT!
BUT IN ORDER FOR IT TO WORK, YOU HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION!
Rather strange and interesting sentences, don't you think? (Especially as there is no follow-up later in the movie about what did they mean by that...)
Any thoughts on that one?

Sorry if I need to quote myself here, from a few posts ago: :)

George Clooney arrested while protesting for Darfur

It seems to me that this is connected to the Kony propaganda, perhaps to profit of the momentum, for whatever global sentiment they want to create (possibly to create the impression of a "humanitarian" USA, to help out Obama in an election year).

The arrest of Clooney seems to be meant to give more resonance and relevance to that forgotten propaganda front (certainly not to quell or silence an issue that benefits from the help of high level Hollywood agents).

As I understand it, Darfur is about some colonial rivalry with China http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7503428.stm, so I wouldn't exclude that Kony was really just meant to prepare us to a renewal of the Darfur issue. We'll see...

It certainly seems to be connected with the horrid "KONY 2012" war propaganda commercial, Nonho!

If you've been able to watch that despicable trash movie, you'll recognize this ugly face:

It is interesting that I only learned of this nonsense from counter posts.

I watched a couple minutes of the video but stopped there. I suspect the reaction from most people is the same.

It should be known that manufacturing synthetic social media buzz is very simple and in fact facebook, youtube, etc, are designed to make it possible. Just look a fiverr.com where you can buy 5k youtube views for $5, 5000 twitter followers, etc, etc. That is by independent low level operators usually working in india, pakistan, or eastern europe. If you have a decent capital base (even a few 100k) you can do almost anything.

The "twitter revolution" nonsense from earlier is a prelude to this. Same techniques, same tactics.

I am not sure that the social media is meant so much to persuade as it is to provide plausibility. It is also a way of injecting things into conversation. Even posting of this forum gives more exposure (mindshare) to the subject, which is nonsense and irrelevant, and so mission accomplished.

On a side note though, what is your schedule like simon? What would you think about editing together a BUSH2012 parody about the real war criminals running loose in the world?

I really wonder what this is all about? I find this unexpected.

Is this the abort button on this apauling piece of propaganda? Why else would they suddenly and heavily discredit (masturbating in public... that's a good one!) the "co-founder" of this huge campaign? (he's probably sim, right?) change of plans? mmm ...strange...

btw, this thread could be better placed in the "wordlwide media deceptions" section no? (not that it's entirely out of place here)

Sure is... something fishy for sure  He was...exhausted and stuff. http://www.tmz.com/2012/03/16/jason-rus ... down-kony/ I wonder if we'll ever see or hear from him again... hmm

Anyway...is the Anti-KONY campaign now going viral simply due to growing enlightenment and 'political awareness'? Really? Encouraging. There are even debunkers who posted their 'exposing KONY' videos only 48-72 hours after the video's release! Claiming they were 'tired' of watching people support this obvious hoax and desired mission by the satanists to plunder more resources. I'm a bit surprised though that the PTB failed to cover some little tracks...again. You'd think by now they would've refined their techniques and not leave anything for 'conspiracists' to jerk off to. Crazy!

Did you know once again AJ was 'on it' from the jump, in fact he and Tarpley predicted all of it years ago (ahem). Hell, I bit.

I think they will just abort this one and follow up with the Clooney story, the average memory span of a sheeperson is about 22 minutes (8 mins commercials)

Right. Clooney.

Blatant misinformation about the situation in Uganda and the status of the LRA and Kony – quickly called out (everyone and their grandma was able to research and discover quite easily), lack of transparency regarding their finances (shady activity), release of an unseemly and controversial photo

Image
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/blo ... _blog.html
etc...
(all shit that's too complicated for a black-Ops team with limitless resources to avoid or take care of :))

all topped off with the douche having a meltown and being detained for bizarre disorderly conduct— all within a couple of weeks. What's really going here? Today I heard someone with a creative imagination throw out the term 'booby trap'...I dunno, I'm still scratching my dome.

Oh and to those who like to play with anagrams : Joseph Kony = Phony Jokes. Cute.

Dear All,

as nonhocapito says:
Kony 2012 Co-founder Arrested for Drunkenly Masturbating in Public
I can only laugh. Am I the only one who sees a parallel with the Wikileaks Julian Assange "rapist"-story?

Sorry, I can not remain serious!
This story was not real news but a clever marketing-campaign of the upcoming porn-version of Kony 2012, titled "FucKony 2012: Visible Teen Pussies".
The story is about horny Ugandan school-girls engaging in S/M practices with LRA guerillas. Jason Russel have a cameo appearance in a public masturbation scene. (All the female actors in the movie are over 18. In 2012, that is. Filmed in 2006.)

Hey guys,

This whole thing is just so peculiar. A massive surge on the social networks and headlines in the mainstream news. Hundreds of thousands of people, probably a great deal more simply clicking 'share' and 'like' on their Facebook feeds than watching the video. Thousands putting up dumb statements like 'this man has to be stopped' and 'those poor children' . I'm not even going to mention the idiotic responses I've received from acquaintances on my page when I've commented on it.

Then nothing for a week or so. Then the 'filmmaker' gets arrested - which didn't get any TV news coverage, bizarrely.

Now, I'm seeing the drip-feeding of Ugandan and African-themed news here, there and everywhere.

The pop group 'JLS' visited Uganda for the UK's Sport Relief

http://www.wateraid.org/uganda/news/10389.asp - JLS recently visited Uganda to film the work that Sport Relief funds.

http://www.unhcr.org/refworld/docid/4f686a772.html - Democratic Republic of Congo-Uganda: Congolese refugees hail Lubanga verdict

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012 ... apse-pitch - Shocked fans leave in silence after Fabrice Muamba's collapse on pitch - Guardian newspaper article (online edition)

"Muamba has led an extraordinary life both on and off the pitch after coming to the UK when he was just 11 as a refugee.
He was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, then known as Zaire, and grew up witnessing the horrors of a civil war which claimed millions of lives."
- Guardian newspaper - (online) - Saturday 17 March 2012

Now, I'm unsure if I'm steering completely off-course, but the footballer story has been mentioned everyday in every news bulletin since it occurred and it just seems like a 'so-what' kind of news story. A footballer collapses. OK, lots of fit and healthy people collapse, especially while out jogging, but it never receives this kind of coverage.

To me, it all seems connected. However, I might just be wanting a connection and am clutching at straws. I don't know. Appreciate any thoughts.
Cheers,
Pug

Hi everyone. I'm new here and learning a lot. Seeing as this is the September Clues Forum I thought you'd be interested in these insights on KONY 2012 from blogger Frank at Merovee.

He has noted the links between Kony and 9/11, most notably in the mock newspaper in the official Kony video which carries a report on the September 11th attacks written the following day.

See his post http://merovee.wordpress.com/2012/03/11 ... -2012-911/ and his posts either side too. The growing view is that Kony may refer to something even broader than the propaganda we've all picked up on so far.
