Reintroduction of death penalty in the EU?

Unread post by MartinL »

Hey, sorry for posting off-topic stuff after whining about off-topic stuff, but what do you think the implications and impact of this might be?

http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id= ... 306&ref=mf (I hope the video plays..)

EDIT For those without a perp-book account here is a short explanation. The Facebook video is a German professor explaining the same issue.

Anyways, the Lisbon treaty has already been pushed through so I guess we can just wait and see if they will activate some of these laws in the future.

Did my best, you'll judge if its good enough.

Professor Schachtschneider has repeated his statement on March 26, 2007, in the "Welt Online". Considering the the weighty consequences of the re-introduction of death penalty through the Lisbon Treaty I started searching and with the help of B?So, Germany, I found the Explanation of Prof. Karl Albrecht Schachtschneider?s statement on the re-inroduction of death penalty.
Unfortunately, I have to admit that this explanation occurs tenable to a layman like me, which is to say with the Lisbon Treaty death penalty will be re-introduced in Europe. For Union law takes precedence over national law!!

Well as long as they don't give death penalty for posting on message boards, I think we're okay.

No, it is not OK.
Death penalty is not OK.
Big mistake if some neo-think-tank-group
assume that this would be a political issue that fly.
It will, in that case, leave them politically isolated.

Truthfully, many die on death row in the USA even after evidence exonerates them. Besides being against it in general, I am against it because even if it actually prevented horrendous crimes (usually the awful criminal thinks they are not going to get caught) it is implemented even worse than it would "ideally" be implemented in a case where supposedly someone is "supposed" to get killed by the government. But then, I assume most of us are against needless wars too ...

I am just trying to answer Martin's question about how it affects us. I guess you could say our fight against manslaughter in all its forms - death penalty included - doesn't change with the laws saying it's okay or not okay.

We've got to keep resisting the ugliness. But let's not spread ourselves too thin. It is easy to get overwhelmed by all the injustices in the world. I think we almost have a pretty good handle on 'TV fakery' and that could really change the world. If you can also put an end to the death penalty, bonus man! Go for it!
