I have now replaced / corrected all of the broken links that you have detected.

For you to spend time and effort to help us maintain the wealth of information posted on Cluesforum is HIGHLY appreciated.

I'd like to add that for so many links (to relevant research material posted on this forum) to "disappear" over time, only goes to show just how 'incovenient' our efforts are - to the "powers that be" (aka the "Nutwork", as I like to call it).

As Hoi Polloi has often advised, we all need (myself included) to overcome our lazy practice of posting hotlinks to relevant material - and to instead (more wisely) upload the same on our OWN servers, so as to prevent those historical records from 'vaporizing into cyberspace'...

Simon, thank you for reminding us it is a good habit to avoid hotlinking. Sometimes even a quick screen grab of the images we are researching, in context with the official web site it appears on, can be very useful, and give us a better snapshot in time of the ever-changing web.

If anyone detects broken links while browsing our forum or SeptemberClues.info or TheCluesChronicle.info, please do not hesitate to let us know here. We have collected a great deal of research over the years and yet it is still very current, since most people are not yet aware of media fakery to the extent they should be.

The pleasure is mine, I’m happy to help with this … in fact, I plan on doing a larger audit over time, so I will continue to update you with my findings as I move through some of the older and longer threads. I’ll focus specifically on the threads I feel are of most importance to the research, to start. There are a lot of broken links in some of the older 9/11 threads (Memorial Scams as an example). I will go through these diligently (slowly, over time) and try to track down the correct links and images when I can, including uploading images to my personal Photobucket. I tend to revisit older threads that I've read years ago anyways, just to keep my memory sharp on the mountains of research here.

I find the research invaluable and I agree it needs to be preserved as much as possible!

If you guys would prefer that I send my updates via private message versus on this thread, just let me know.

I am about halfway through my audit of the ISS thread. There are some links and images I was unable to track down, however I did replace a fair amount and have also uploaded many images to my personal Photobucket account, so they won't disappear again. I will say it's quite a shame to have lost all of reel.deel's content. I hope this is not too lengthy and easy enough for you guys to read. Please let me know if there's anything I can do to make the copy/paste job and updates easier for you. Latest updates below, audited until page 40 of the ISS thread, which is where I will resume later.

I've only just registered here, but I'm wondering why the site does not use https (TLS) security. Particularly for login pages.

Is there a significant cost difference?

I believe there is an annual cost difference which we could review with the membership and ask if they care enough to make secure SSL or similar socket connections the standard. We haven't had known issues without it yet. Thanks for the idea.

Adding SSL encryption to the site should be almost, if not completely, free. Services like Lets Encrypt (https://letsencrypt.org) make the process very straightforward. SSL encryption is becoming more and more the standard for any website, and as an information security professional, I would highly recommend pursuing it and would be happy to offer my services pro bono to assist in that effort if they are desired. That being said, if the users don't mind that their activity on this site - as well as their credentials - are being passed around unencrypted over the internet, then it isn't strictly necessary.

Another thought - someone might want to search through the back-end database to identify links to known bad hosting sites (i.e. Photobucket) or better yet, a simple script could be written to verify ALL embedded images and videos on the entire site and identify broken links. It seems to me that broken links to images and YouTube videos threaten to constantly diminish the value of this site, as posts and even entire threads become increasingly unreadable as one is no longer able to view the content that is being discussed. It may even be possible to sort this list by pages/posts/threads with the most ongoing page hits, to identify which broken links should be tackled first. Again, I would be happy to assist in this matter.

Please contact me or post here if there is interest in either of these items and I can be of any assistance. Both of them fall directly in my wheelhouse. As I have little to add to the discussion presently, I would like to help however else I can.

I'd suggest implementing TLS in a way that doesn't require giving away administrator privileges to your system.

How do I set up HTTPS (TLS) for my web site?

TLS is supported by default for the .nfshost.com name for all newly-created sites (e.g. example.nfshost.com), and can be enabled for older sites from the Site Information panel for that site in our member interface.

For custom aliases, such as http://www.example.com, you will need a key, a certificate, and (usually) a certificate chain. If you have these already, you can install them through the shell or the member interface, whichever you prefer.
