Re: SUGGESTION BOX (for Admin action)
I think phpBB only allows us to switch between 80 and 443; not use both?

Re: SUGGESTION BOX (for Admin action)
I can't speak to phpBB specifically, but if it doesn't support listening on multiple ports using multiple protocols (i.e. non-SSL on 80, SSL on 443), it should still be possible to add a reverse proxy server like NGINX to achieve this.
https://www.nginx.com/resources/glossar ... xy-server/
This sounds complicated but the reality is that it's quite easy to set up, assuming that you have shell access to your web server.
A simpler solution would be to configure Apache directly to do this (I can see by the headers that the forum is being served by FreeBSD / Apache). It would look something like this in your ports.conf:
Listen 80
<IfModule ssl_module>
Listen 443
</IfModule>
Just a thought. It may not be worth the extra effort to implement, but I just wanted to point out that it is an option.

Okay, right now SacredCowSlayer is waiting on transferring the domain so if CluesForum disappears momentarily, please do not be alarmed. We will do our best to get the new site up and going ASAP.
We appreciate your patience during this process. We cannot guarantee that data posted to CluesForum between now and then will be preserved in the database but we'll do our best. So please don't wreck the place while we are working. Thank you.

Re: THE "CHATBOX"
The forum's SSL changes over the last week seem to have broken its Mint page:
Can this be fixed, so we don't lose our statistical history of page views and number of readers?Mint was unable to connect to the database. Please make sure that the correct values have been added to /config/db.php.

Re: THE "CHATBOX"
That’s an excellent question. I’ve wondered the same with regard to some of these statistics.fbenario » October 12th, 2018, 7:15 pm wrote:The forum's SSL changes over the last week seem to have broken its Mint page:Can this be fixed, so we don't lose our statistical history of page views and number of readers?Mint was unable to connect to the database. My best guess is that Hoi and PianoRacer are catching up from all the work done just to get the site back online.
We still have a number of things to address. But, one thing at a time my friend.
Sincerely,
SCS

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, fbenario. That was something we didn't think to test.fbenario » October 12th, 2018, 7:15 pm wrote:The forum's SSL changes over the last week seem to have broken its Mint page:Can this be fixed, so we don't lose our statistical history of page views and number of readers?Mint was unable to connect to the database. I believe I've got it fixed now. Take a look and let me know.
Any other issues with Mint or any other aspects of site functionality - please post them here and I will do my best.
Thanks,

Thank you PR for your assistance on so many of these technical issues. The Mint page is functional again, but has no data for the period from last Wednesday until earlier today, Sunday.

Just one note to the good person who was responsible to migrate the forum: first of all, thank you. and second, it's a very very minor thing, but you left behind the "favicon" file, now not visible anymore next to the cluseforum bookmark.

Re: THE "CHATBOX"
Thank you Nonhocapito for letting me know. I’ll send PianoRacer an email about it, just in case he doesn’t see this post. I’ll go ahead and move this to the Admin Suggestion topic- for neatness sake.nonhocapito » October 23rd, 2018, 3:51 am wrote:Just one note to the good person who was responsible to migrate the forum: first of all, thank you. and second, it's a very very minor thing, but you left behind the "favicon" file, now not visible anymore next to the cluseforum bookmark.

Re: SUGGESTION BOX (for Admin action)
Thank you so much dear PianoRacer. It appears to be fixed now. Thank you again Nonhocapito and Simon for pointing that out.
I honestly didn’t know for sure what that was until I texted a link to somebody, and I saw that weird “PMA” on the screen. Minor. . . but still worth fixing.
Thanks again,
SCS

Re: SUGGESTION BOX (for Admin action)
Hi all,
At this juncture, we find ourselves in the unfortunate situation where the only person with technical expertise who has access and is regularly available to administer the back end of this forum is none other than yours truly. I assure you, this is not a position that any of us should be comfortable with, as it is not wise to ensure the continued functioning of an important technology resource (as Clues Forum surely qualifies as) to a single individual, regardless how handsome or qualified he may be.
As a result, I am looking for another technology professional (established or aspiring) to assist me with some projects that have been long overdue for the forum (establishing automated off-site backups, upgrading the forum software, implementing "best-practice" security measures, etc.)
The main qualification would be at least some familiarity with the LAMP stack, or at the very least a serious desire to learn it:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LAMP_(software_bundle)
If you think you are qualified and wish to assist in this capacity, please post here or send me a private email at pianoracer@gmail.com.
All the best,
PR

As you know, I have addressed most of these suggestions (in your full post above) previously. However, I don’t recall this one (that I have quoted in this post) mentioned before.
In legal terminology this would be descriptive as a rule that serves (at least in part) prophylactic purposes. Do you find my recently created topic sufficient as such? That is sort of what I was/am aiming for.
And if so, I would be delighted if you wish to help me compile Examples from the lengthy “Introduce Yourself” thread. I simply have to many “spinning plates” at the moment. You may (if you are inclined) post links in this topic, and I’ll (or of course another Admin or Moderator if he/she wishes) move them as time allows.

Dear Observer,[a]nd from now on, any member who breaks that rule . . . should automatically have all their posts (the initial trust-building-posts together with their final terror-story-reveal post) deleted to effectively take away the motivation for that action.
