That said, let's look at a couple of "the salients", as famous J.D. Robb character, Lieutenant Eve Dallas, would put it.

Not to put more stock than is merited into the ELA of the imagery, the following image really is a textbook example of sloppy forgery.

Then again, perhaps it was merely "touched up" for presentation purposes. <_< The original, non-cropped image probably isn't any better.

I love the fake glasses, fake zipper and mouth/braces.

However, my favorite part is the little badge/imprint on the jacket of the person behind her. It's beautifully fake, sure, but note the numerical sequence.

"09---0461".

So, again, :puke:

I'm never entirely sure about ELA. The results can sometimes be confusing.

Has anyone tried the Image Error Analysis page at http://29a.ch/sandbox/2012/imageerrorlevelanalysis/? I used to be able to get it to work (faders/sliders, and all), but now it defeats me. Maybe I've become excessively Java-ed.

A "new video" has surfaced of this supposed plane crash and it's full of Sony Playstation-like quality, in all it's glory. I find it amusing that nobody questions why it took 4 years to release the full video, nor why we can't have higher quality, HD security video in 2013. One would assume the absolute BEST video equipment should be used at airports, you know, for security reasons and such.

This video is absolutely laughable. Enjoy.

I hate to add any more humor to this story in case someone is at risk of developing a hernia from laughter, but here goes:

It seems a certain local TV station was given the names of the four crew members, and unfortunately, these names did go out over the air:
Sum Ting Wong
Wi Tu Lo
Ho Lee Fuk
& the memorable. . . Bang Ding Ow

A US television channel has apologised after reporting . . . racially insensitive names
and
the station maintains that an NTSB official confirmed the fake names
Wonder what the real story is behind this prank.

Oh, sorry, I overlooked that the name bit has already been reported here.

Terrific presentation, guys. You've made me a better writer; I've learned from you that it's much more fun to read a comedic presentation. I'll have to see if I can see the funny side of some of the grim things I write about.

tp82, about possible motives for phoney plane crashes. Makes losses palatable to stockholders of the insurance companies involved (AIG in this case); provides a chance to make money selling the airline's stock short. Also allows them to find willing participants for bigger frauds to come. Chiefs and supervisors need to know which underlings will keep their mouths shut or even participate. And of course once a participant, compromised forever into future participation.

I used to think it was dicey for the fraudsters to control all the medical personnel who know that numerous injuries have not come through Emergency or been admitted. But really-- w a compromised media, no matter who they tell we would never hear of it.

PS in this case Asiana had to pay $3.45 million to San Francisco, so perhaps S. Korea was targetted for some sin against the oligarchs.
