Re: The (non-religious) dinosaur hoax question

Yes, one thing that makes me suspicious about dinosaurs is their PR value. They may be real, but if they were not, someone "would have had to invent them," as they say. E.g., the first dino skeleton display was for the Philadelphia museum c. 1858. A hadrosaurus, built by the Brit Waterhous...

Re: The (non-religious) dinosaur hoax question

You're slightly misreading me, but I'm not sure it's worth getting into the weeds over it. I was basically agreeing with you, and adding that this Jim Jensen might be an interesting parallel to the career of Horner. I still highly recommend the linked academic paper in my post above, hope some will ...

Re: The (non-religious) dinosaur hoax question

ICFreely- It is interesting they talk about Horner being such a poor student and having dyslexia. Perhaps it is just a case of insensitive schools not recognizing his ability. However, it reminds me of the late paleontologist "Dinosaur Jim Jensen" of Utah. He was said not to have finished ...

Re: The (non-religious) dinosaur hoax question

Yes, Cope and Marsh (the Bone Wars guys) are partly who I had in mind when I mentioned "red flags." I was thinking what Miles Mathis would do with these two characters, based on their spook markers... but as I said, that could just be the nature of holding high rank in the science of that ...

Re: The (non-religious) dinosaur hoax question

My satirical piece that I posted was moved to the Art Corner thread, but I was asked to give some more concrete views on the topic, which I will post here... At least, in abbreviated form.. At some future time I hope to write a longer or more thought out piece: -Are any museum displays claimed to be...

Re: REQUIRED: Introduce Yourself

Hi-
I have tried twice to post on the dinosaur hoax thread and each time it has gone through initially, and then later I find it seemingly removed. Is there some protocol here I'm missing?

Thanks,
Tim

Re: The (non-religious) dinosaur hoax question

This thread (and a few dino skeptics online) has prompted me to look into the question of dino fakery a bit, but I'll admit I still don't have any solid conclusions. I did write this satirical piece for my blog that I wanted to share with CF readers: http://timrockscomics.blogspot.com/2016/09/interv...

Re: REQUIRED: Introduce Yourself

Hi Simon- I discovered CF a month or so ago and have enjoyed reading many of the threads there. Of particular interest to me is the one on dinosaurs. It has prompted me to look at some of the mainstream sources with a critical eye, and try to determine what I think about the matter. I also wrote a s...
