Does Rocketry Work in the Vacuum?
Yes, if the speed of the spring releasing it's energy is the same as the exhaust velocity of Ariane's fuel, 2,400 m/s, the medicine ball will begin to move up, as long as the force of spring velocity x weight of ejected tennis balls per second is superior to the force of gravity pushing down (9.8m s...

Re: China's Moon Mission(s)
If all the major nations in the world are staging these senseless techno-space fables, I cannot but wonder: why? Is it to create the illusion of an endless era of wonder and progress in humanity? Is it to secure a means for States to funnel government funds into secret operations? Is it a way for St...

Re: MARS & the Curiosity Rover - NASA's latest hoax
I find you are being deliberately sarcastic in this remark. It's quite pathetic.sceppy wrote:Which camera is ahead of the rocket from the 2 minute mark?
Did they send up a man with a camera and rocket back pack or something?

Re: Elon Musk, SpaceX and PayPal
Why does the rocket exhaust only produce smoke when it is near the ground (both takeoff and landing)? Are we supposed to believe that it is being launched from a dirt surface and the smoke is from the soil and grass burning? It's very odd that some rocket launches show no smoke plume and others lar...

Re: Elon Musk, SpaceX and PayPal
In any case, can any one please explain the presence of a herd of cows on a rocket launch site? Here is a comment I found posted on a web forum from user "Gurzang" attempting to explain the presence of the cows in the rocket video as staged for the purpose of making the footage appear more...

Re: Satellites : general discussion and musings
By it's own propulsion system , this satellite then proceeded to successfully place itself to its intended 36,000Km orbital target . Oh well, Citronbleu... It must be a piece of cake nowadays for satellites to propel themselves up to the desired altitude & lock into geostationary orbit... :roll...

Re: Satellites : general discussion and musings
Here is Artemis , one of the first satellites placed into geo-orbit by French rocket Ariane 5. Due to a defect in the Ariane 5 propulsion system, this satellite, launched on 12 July 2001 and intended to be placed into a 36,000 km orbit, only reached 17,000Km. http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/7822/...

^ Dear Citronbleu, Here's a short and simple question which I'd like to submit to ESA (if they actually do take questions, that is) - but maybe you can help me out and double-check my question's pertinence and validity, as I may well just be missing something : °°°°°°°°°°° Dear ESA, According to th...

Re: Why Rocketry Doesn't Work in the Vacuum
Even though I agree much of the rocket launch footage appears to be staged, I will have to agree with Heiwa that rockets can theoretically work in a vacuum. By quoting the analogy of the energy produced by firing an M16 bullet, you are in fact validating the idea that a rocket can "push against...

Re: Satellites : general discussion and musings
Where do the 480 tons of solid-fuel for Ariane 5's two rocket boosters come from? (2) The only mention I found of propergol solide fabrication in France is government-owned company SNPE (Société Nationale des Produits Explosifs) and its branch division Matériaux Energétiques (SME) which makes "...
