Here's another of those odd looking Grasshopper launches posted on YT a few days ago ...

Some questions that come to my mind:
What are those structures to the left of the rocket? Are they buildings with people inside? Is the rocket really that big? If not, what are they?
There seems to be nothing connected to the rocket so how is its engine ignited?
I don't see that the roads or vehicle tracks lead to the pad itself so how did the rocket get there?
What is the purpose of the wind-blown flames emerging from the rocket? They couldn't be adding any thrust.
Why is the sound volume the same regardless of the rockets altitude?

Re: Elon Musk, SpaceX and PayPal
The folks at SpaceX have just tested their Wet Drop Crew Capsule for use in future NASA missions.
What we are asked to believe is that a few flimsy parachutes can slow down an object that weighs 12 thousand pounds, dropped from a height of 8 thousand feet.
Let's say for arguments sake, this is possible.
The next logical question is ... what good is this test from 8,000 feet considering that the capsule would be re-entering the atmosphere at 11,200 m/s (Apollo 11's speed, credit Heiwa). Obviously the test is pointless. It's all for show.

EDIT to add (from wiki):
The Stardust sample-return capsule was the fastest man-made object ever to reenter Earth's atmosphere (12.4 km/s or 28,000 mph at 135 km altitude) This was faster than the Apollo mission capsules and 70% faster than the Shuttle.

Anonjedi! We need to call SpaceX and tell'em to make that capsule waterproof - or their asstronots will tragically drown as they splash down in the ocean on re-entry!

The video has some subliminal features, so to speak. For example, the outline of the facilities in the background and "pile of rubble" in the foreground. In fact, there is quite a bit of symbolism in this image:anonjedi2 wrote:The folks at SpaceX have just tested their Wet Drop Crew Capsule for use in future NASA missions.
And this often-used camera (or CGI) effect, giving the viewer the sensation of being halfway into "space". The purported altitude is not even one fourth of cruise altitude:

Elon Musk tells a big one: You're Safe If My Spacecraft Crashes
http://www.businessweek.com/videos/2014 ... ft-crashes
In this video Elon Musk explains how the Dragon protects astronots by providing an escape mechanism with thrusters and parachutes if something happens to the rocket during launch.
One of the problems of faking space is if a rocket happens to explode at launch, like the shuttle did, they have to "disappear" the "dead" people who were said to be aboard the human-less missile/rockets. Elon's system means if a "prop" rocket explodes we are 100% GUARANTEED to see the perps, I mean the actornauts, at a press conference the next day. (the Chinese allege to have an escape system in place for their astronots as well)
One question for Elon: have you tested this system during an actual rocket launch?
Answer: of course not. The space programs don't need no stinking testing. If it works on paper and in the factory, it just works. That's space engineering for you.

Busy past few weeks for Elon...
His $105,005 car is kinda crappy...

Which forced him to cancel his satellite launches...
All of these media stories certainly try & promote SpaceX as a real company & its founder as a real person.

Elon then warned us about the dangers of super-intelligent computers...Though states are still competing to attract the roughly $4 billion factory, Musk confirmed that the company broke ground on a preliminary site in Reno, Nevada.
Then he got sued by his employee's apparently...“We need to be super careful with AI,” ...“Potentially more dangerous than nukes.”
Then his space Rocket exploded...The other suit suggests working conditions weren't ideal leading up to the lay-offs, anyway, with claims the company failed to provide employees--even its technicians producing space rockets--with state mandated lunch and rest breaks

This is the best 'picture' I could find of the AsiaSat 6 satellite...The company says it wants to “triple check” to make sure there are no potential flaws with the interfaces of the rocket and the AsiaSat 6 satellite that it was scheduled to launch 22,000 miles into space.

I haven't been following Elon Musk on this forum nor indeed on any other forum.
I came across by chance today a Q&A session with Elon Musk at MIT as part of their centennial celebrations. You may be interested in his presence if not by his replies... Topics covered include rocketry, NASA, colonizing Mars, electric cars and he answers technical questions from students and graduates of MIT.
I apologize for not being able to imbed this video which I found very interesting even though I am not scientifically endowed. It is 1h23 long.

Here we go again - another 'character-building setback' for Elon Musk, the new space-swindler-extraordinaire:
full link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amRPtyhIzkI
I suppose these occasional 'disasters' are meant to convey some sort of credibility to his fledgling space (con)enterprise - enabling him to go on TV someday and say: "Ah well, we had our fair share of failures you know - but our gritty, resilient team rolled up their sleeves and heroically overcame all the initial tech problems. We have now colonized Mars, Saturn and Pluto with our fantastic space machines - and are ready for the stars."
Just like in the movies, ya know.

They're really pushing this Musk(y) fellow on us lately. From his big home-bound battery which is no different than what people have been using for years, to a recent episode of The Simpsons which seemed entirely devoted to fluffing Musk.
One wonders if he and Neill DeGrasse Tyson will team up and run for president! We will collectively be powerless to resist their scientific and technocratic commands.

Re: Elon Musk, SpaceX and PayPal
The below video was posted to the SpaceX YouTube channel on April 14, 2015. It purports to show the 6th launch of one of its Commercial Resupply Services spacecraft which is said to deliver supplies to the orbiting ISS.
If you advance the video to 10:50, you will see a close-up of the top of the rocket with greenery and water in the background. If you look closely behind and to the left of the rocket, you will see a bird magically appear out of nowhere and take a highly improbable flight path through the video frame. It appears to glitch twice and mysteriously has a new trajectory after each glitch. This takes place from 10:51 to 10:58.

STEVE JURVETSON - a typical Elon Musk 'business partner'
Here's the sort of 'venture capitalist' who - we are told - 'passionately supports and invests' in Elon Musk's NASA-offspin, space-con-scheme :

Here, Steve meets with fellow lifetime-liar/con-man Neil Armstrong - who relates a 'nightmarish' Apollo fairy tale :

Here, Steve 'explains' why the "48,000 lbs of 70mm tape, the only copies of extremely high-resolution images of the moon" ("stored behind the counter of an abandoned McDonalds) - have never been shown to the public - "and probably never will"...

Re: Elon Musk, SpaceX and PayPal
This supposed imagery transfer technique makes no sense whatsoever.....from the flickr link, it proudly announces that:simonshack wrote: 8,000 lbs of 70mm tape, the only copies of extremely high-resolution images of the moon
.The spacecraft did not ship this film back to Earth. Instead, they developed the film on the Lunar Orbiter and then raster scanned the negatives with a 5 micron spot (200 lines/millimeter resolution) and beamed the data back to Earth using yet-to-be-patented-by-others lossless analog compression
So this purported Orbiter satellite had a launch payload of at least 4 tons of unexposed/undeveloped photographic film on board?
Yet a contemporary representative information website about satellites states:
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/idealab/sa ... arth-orbit
Just like lunar travel, 1960s satellite technology must've become much-less capable over the last 40-odd years. Allegedly. And yet so much more impressive than the 180-pound Sputnik a decade earlier.HOW BIG ARE THEY?
Size varies. Communication satellites can be as big as a small school bus and weigh up to 6 tons, the Federal Communications Commission says. Most weigh a few tons or less. Some that are used briefly are 4 inch cubes and weigh about 2 pounds

"Flawless launch
On Monday night, local time, the upgraded 23-storey-tall rocket took off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station with the main stage returning about 10 minutes later to a landing site about 9.65km [9+11] south of the launch pad.
Near the peak of its flight, at an altitude of some 200km (125 miles), it propelled the rocket's second stage - laden with 11 communications satellites - into space."
