Elon Musk, SpaceX and PayPal

If NASA faked the moon landings, does the agency have any credibility at all? Was the Space Shuttle program also a hoax? Is the International Space Station another one? Do not dismiss these hypotheses offhand. Check out our wider NASA research and make up your own mind about it all.

BTW in the cut between far away shot and close-up shot as the rocket lands, the flame seems to become instantly much smaller, as if a few seconds were removed from the video. Yet the sound remains unaltered and continuous. Maybe someone could explain away this with the close up having different photo aperture. However if that was the case the rest of the image should look very dark around the flame and this does not happen.

[EDIT: the sound is unaltered, true, however it does change to a higher pitch, only not as abruptly as the video cut. It is possible they just interwove the audio to hide the change in footage. In this case, lux you're probably right to say that something went wrong at that moment, and that the last part of the landing is just reverse footage -- if the whole thing isn't faked from start to end.]

Details are here.

Something about this doesn't look right to me. I guess it's the way the exhaust flames are blown to one side by the wind. I don't think I've ever seen that on a rocket launch before. It makes it look like the rocket is actually suspended (as by a crane) rather than being supported by the rocket thrust. Any comments?
Two observations:
1. the sky has many colors
2. the exhaust from the so called rocket sometimes looks like just smoke you'd get from engines and sometimes it looks like an orange/brown dust cloud even though the so called rocket is being "launched" from a cement platform.

... and I still have to understand the logic of a rocket or a shuttle that lands back on its own, thus having to carry a much heavier load of fuel. But I guess the absurdity of the shuttle "gliding" back on earth was not sustainable or fashionable anymore, so in the future we will have the "Falcon" power landing like the "Eagle" in "Space: 1999".

Did they use two helicopters to film it?

Check out this cartoon exhaust cloud. That is some shoddy work on the second camera angle

The exhaust comes at the camera like a pyroclastic flow of greyscale lego
AmericaSpace partner Wired4Space had pros Mike Barrett and Jeff Seibert set up some video recorders at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station's Space Launch Complex 40 in Florida. The reason? To get this awesome video of the launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket with a Dragon spacecraft carrying out the CRS-2 mission for NASA. Check out how the camera gets smothered in debris from the rocket.

And those bushes on the left!
All houses in hurricane/tornado affected areas should have these surrounding them!

What a great observation, Pov !

Those bushes must be made of steel ! They don't seem to mind the wind change at all ! Yet the 'camera lens' (which is obviously meant to be stationed BEHIND the bushes) gets splattered with many ugly stains!

It's all CGI, folks.

Falcon 9 Test Rig Completed Divert Test-Single Cam

"On August 13th, the Falcon 9 test rig (code name Grasshopper) completed a divert test, flying to a 250m altitude with a 100 m lateral maneuver before returning to the center of the pad. The test demonstrated the vehicle's ability to perform more aggressive steering maneuvers than have been attempted in previous flights.

Grasshopper is taller than a ten story building, which makes the control problem particularly challenging. Diverts like this are an important part of the trajectory in order to land the rocket precisely back at the launch site after reentering from space at hypersonic velocity."

The lateral maneuvers of the rocket, tilting to one side while maintaining perfect hover, appear to defy common sense and the laws of physics.

^ Yes, it looks very unreal. Especially just before it lands with the flames blowing off to one side.

SpaceX Launch startles Cows

From The Telegraph:

"A video shows the moment a herd of cows was frightened into stampeding by the sight of a rocket being launched in a nearby field. The footage, shot in Texas, shows the test flight launch of a Grasshopper rocket by the private space flight company, SpaceX. The cows," continues The Telegraph, "can be seen running as the rocket takes off in the distance."

I found the video a refreshing surprise to the usual mosquitoe/bird flock launch footage.
