WXYZ-TV (Detroit) is owned by E. W. Scripps Company, and is an ABC affiliate, as opposed to being owned-and-operated by ABC.
Very interesting. So one could own and control the output of an affiliate to a greater extent than one could if one were wholly owned. Yet the appearance is of a mainstream (ergo 'legitimate') source of news with all the credibility that goes along with that. If someone(s) were to buy up a bunch of affiliates, one could to some extent penetrate the impenetrable wall of the mainstream media.
