Journalist Marie Colvin killed in Syria, 2-22-2012

Unread post by nonhocapito »

[Given the growing interest and numerous findings, I have split this thread from the "Egypt revolution - Lybia war" topic ~nonhocapito]

At the moment access to resources, editing software or uploading tools is very limited for me. But it would be nice if someone could investigate the recent developments in Syria (about which, maybe, we should at this stage really open a separate topic).

It seems obvious to me that the events over there are being hyped or faked by newsmedia and field agents in some way, as they so often range on the absurd and self-damaging on part of the Syrian regime.
As to the interesting part, the media fakery, can someone possibly learn more about this recent american victim journalist "Marie Colvin"?

Is she even real? Eye patch and "true grit"-john wayne expression and all?

Well, we certainly have a lot of dodgy photos relating to this person/persona.

Image
Marie gettin' down with her homies.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2012 ... olvin.html

And here I thought "journalists" (if they ever were for real, that is) were supposed to be neutral/impartial/etc. when it comes to their profession. This is almost like saying "Yo! These are the good guys, just fucking bomb the bad guys already!" Sheesh!

And as usual in dodgy "deaths", we have, yet again, a "relative" HOLDING A PICTURE OF THE LOST LOVED ONE IN QUESTION:

http://www.longislandpress.com/2012/02/ ... -murdered/

:puke:

And would it really surprise anyone that Marie just so happened to "die" on the numerologically fitting day of 22nd February?

I think it's also worth taking a look at the other supposedly dead person, REMI OCHLIK.

Here's both "MARIE" & "REMI":

Image
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-02-23/j ... ms/3846474

The cynic in me says the "surprising" resonance of those names together is the result of a name generating algorithm at work:

MARIE
REMI -> M RIE (only missing A to be MARIE). Eh, what a coincidence? Image

COLVIN
OCHLIK

...both of which contain 4 same letters. A word that comes out of those letters is LOCI, the plural form of locus (meaning 'place').

"Ochlik"'s repertoire seems to consist mostly of hideous PsyOp imagery: http://www.ochlik.com/

I especially love this, uh, plausible shot from Egypt:

---
The general pattern is very perceptible: fake reporters and fake photographers who die heroically as martyrs for "truth".

More fodder re: the "strike" that "killed" the two Maries *cough*... I mean killed MARIE & REMI.

I commend to Cluesforum's consideration the blog content at http://pennyforyourthoughts2.blogspot.com/ in respect of Marie Colvin.

I find many of the conclusions being stated there to be both disturbing, and probably correct.

The author makes eight main Colvin points (all of which appear to be valid, solid and worrying).

Let me re-post the tail-end picture first...and if you hadn't seen it already, look and weep....

Image(...think....Moshe Dayan)

One: the initial information on this has come from the 'opposition'...

Two: The apparently well-informed/connected blog author claims that they (and other associate commentators on the middle-east) had never even heard of Colvin before.

Three: Everything on the wiki page for her was created on 22 Feb, yet are told she was a prestigious journalist for two decades,

Four: Marie Colvin is supposed to be an American, working for the British press and yet it was the French government who confirmed her death? Plus the original lead headline was that a male French journalist was killed in Syria...

Five: The death of the journalists itself could not initially be confirmed by the MSM (including by her purported NewsCorp colleagues) yet it was published in the interim with great haste and with an apparent lack of concern for next-of-kin

Six: A few hours before her death she gave an interview to CNN,where she tells the world how she witnessed the totemic death of a baby. This helped precondition the world to her existence, with the taboo subject of any child's death masking the improbably level of absolute insight she displayed about the death.

Seven- MSM claims that Syrian Government officials had effectively declared war on journalists prior to the death of the duo. So this was either an apparent self-fulfilling prophesy, or a tragic...coincidence. The author considers it to be just one part of a false narrative.

Eight- all imagery that included Marie Colvin appears (at least slightly) odd.

There is no way this picture is real. Look at the respective heights- unless she actually is standing on a tall/very-small soap-box. How could she be dressed like this? Where is the obligatory dak-blue flak jacket? No press affilliation pass? But a photojournalist with no camera?

Indeed, with the advances in digital technology, it's relatively easy to gain favor in the propaganda portion of a war by creating these simulated martyr figures who, although they always appear out of thin air, apparently have had a distinguished multi-decade career. And possibly an "infectious smile". ;)

It's a sickening twofold "victory" for "them" in terms of PR: that not only is media looking relentlessly for the "truth", it is willing to make these martyrdom-like sacrifices in order to gain it for the public. And all this despite the "evil" foreign government apparently nonchalantly bombing them to dust.

"In 2011, while reporting on the Arab Spring in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya, she was offered an opportunity to interview Muammar Gaddafi, along with two other journalists that she could nominate. For Gaddafi's first international interview since the start of the war, Colvin took along Christiane Amanpour of ABC News[17] and Jeremy Bowen of BBC News.[18][16] Colvin noted the importance of shining a light on "humanity in extremis, pushed to the unendurable", stating "My job is to bear witness. I have never been interested in knowing what make of plane had just bombed a village or whether the artillery that fired at it was 120mm or 155mm."

So she asked Christine Amanpour and Jeremy Brown to help with the interview, well please watch the 2nd video down and stop it at 1:22 and you will see Colvin wearing the same black overcoat in the photo above with NO EYEPATCH at all !!! very interesting to say the least. Also notice in the 3 photo's/video segments on the left the difference in the background color..1st is black like night, 2nd is is white and 3rd is blue ???

http://abcnews.go.com/International/chr ... 01AbPXznd4

There seems to be some very strange "video glitches" when Christine is talking to Dianne Sawyer as well.

I have been searching for awhile now and cannot find any photo's or written reports from Marie Colvin which is odd since she supposedly had a long successful career as a war correspondent, has anyone been able to find any of her past write ups or photo's?

A number of articles signed by "Marie Colvin" can be found on "The Sunday Times" website, allegedly her newspaper: http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/pub ... =on&pf=all
Filtering out the many tributes and such, there seem to be many feature articles and columns signed by her.

I am not necessarily impressed considering that all newspapers have at their disposal a quantity of articles that they can publish unsigned (and thus turn around to a fake signature), and probably an enormous quantity of unpublished, discarded articles even dating to decades ago that can be used, if needed, to give the impression of a prolific career -- without the need to actually write all these articles today. (Unfortunately nothing on that website seems to be readable unless one is a "subscriber".)

Many of the recent Colvin's articles, anyway, appear to be about Gaddafi, since, like it has been noted already, apparently Colvin "covered" that strange, strange war in 2011. :puke:

I also found two articles in the NYT archives signed by Marie Colvin. One dated 1988 (about Arafat), the other 1989 (about Khomeini).

Image
The one about Arafat appears to have been the cover article of the NYT magazine in December 1988.
Amazon.com pretends to sell one old copy of that magazine, here: http://www.amazon.com/Times-Magazine-AR ... B005SDA8G0 and also here: http://www.amazon.com/Magazine-December ... B001FSHRFM. Unfortunately, in both cases clicking on the "sellers" link does nothing for me.

Talking about Amazon, on that website there seems to be only one book attributed to Colvin:

Image
http://www.amazon.com/Hidden-Syria-Mari ... 016&sr=1-1

The book is dated 2007 -- coincidentally about Syria. And just like the magazine, it cannot really be bought.
"Currently unavailable".

The book appears to come from the publishing house "Saqi Books", based in London.
here is their website: http://www.saqibooks.com/saqi/index.asp?TAG=&CID=

According to wicky, Saqi Books was founded by Lebanese activist "Mai Ghoussoub", a troskyite feminist converted-humanist. Always according to wicky, just like Marie Colvin Mai Ghoussoub lost one of her eyes, also due to a violent weapon-related event.

From a cursory look to their titles, Saqi appear to have a wide selection of propaganda books with some careful history revisionism, targeting the muslim world. But I could not find Marie Colvin's book anywhere on their website. What gives?

(I wrote an email to Saqi books asking them about it. We'll see.)

Just got a response from the Sales manager at Saqi Books:
Dear [nonhocapito],

This proposed title pre dates my time at Saqi Books. It was never actually published.
I believe that the project was a joint one between Marie Colvin and the photo journalist Seamus Murphy, but never got beyond the talking stage.
Well, talking stage -- and a cover. But OK. So Amazon has had since 2007 a Marie Colvin's book in its lists -- that never existed.
