Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth

I think Joseph Campbell has some insights about what's going on in the world, in regards to how human nature and myth intertwine.

This is the first one, which discusses the God-masks of different civilizations. Sometimes it feels like the "fakery" is a sort of mask we are meant to see through? Or is that pushing the benevolence of a sinister control system too far? Other interesting videos in the chain:
