The pictures I have seen so far seem to portrait always the same two or three angles of the city, as if these big riots were all contained there.
Once again from corriere.it we have this:
not so scary rioters 1
From http://www.corriere.it/gallery/esteri/0 ... 51.shtml#2
not so scary rioters 2
From http://www.corriere.it/gallery/esteri/0 ... e.shtml#18
scary big policemen in riot gear
From http://www.corriere.it/gallery/esteri/0 ... e.shtml#19
Notice how the parked cars in front of the shop change in the three pictures, as if people in the neighborhood were so dumb to keep parking cars there in the middle of the favorite rioters hangout.
The first picture belong to a gallery posted on corriere.it yesterday; the second and third were published today. Are we supposed to think the pictures were taken far apart in time, which means all the relevant action was all the while contained in front of this little line of shops?
[EDIT: same line of shops also featured in this picture: ]

Re: LONDON RIOTS
I'm actually having some problems figuring out the exact layout of this favorite rioters/reuters hangout.
Rioter A is rioter A, fine. Behind him, other brave rioters are prying open a shop, for idealistic purposes of course
Now to the issue... Use the hanging locker as a reference on one side, and the opened gate door as a reference to the other.
The vertical black line near the '3?' to the right is not a very compressed equivalent of number '3' to the left. The picture to the left also has the vertical black line next to the '2'.
Provided entrance '3' is the one being open in the second picture, one of the entrances seems to be simply missing.
Did someone enhanced this picture with Adobe© Photoshop©?

Re: LONDON RIOTS
Thanks Makko There is more mystery concerning these shops...
Via google, I found the fruit & veg shop on the "localdatasearch" website, that looks quite identical to the one we see in the above pictures:
From http://www.localdatasearch.com/london/l ... h-12540337 (is this image real?)
Then if I go on google streetview, the shop situation is quite different:
From http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=51 ... 54,,1,5.41
[EDIT: here is from another angle. Even admitting the streetview passage is old... were both shops (and street signs to boot) renovated in the meantime?]
[EDIT2: How old can the streetview passage be? Other things were renovated... Here is the view from shellness road:
and here is the already seen picture of corriere.it:
The horizontal yellow line is now doubled...

Re: LONDON RIOTS
Thats weird nonho! I've just looked too! Either Google maps is out of date and "Lucianos" has been refitted or it's a reconstuction of some kind, a set perhaps?
Well spotted!

Re: LONDON RIOTS
They probably rented some vacant shop to use as their staging area. It doesn't look like "Luciano's" had a whole lot of traffic and if London is like other big cities I doubt that somebody could get it rezoned for a grocery store without a lot of trouble. In real life I doubt that the shopkeeper would just leave everything open while the Riots are going on outside.
[edit]Is there really enough demand for a COOKING OIL AND RICE SPECIALIST on that block? I'm not quite sure how you can pay for a brand new sign selling whatever it is is they sell for one pound a bowl. Who needs Tesco when Clarence Fresh is so much more convenient. And hey, you know how hard it is to find Sesame Oil in this town. If you want the finest virgin cold-pressed sesame oil you have to make a special trip to Clarence Fresh--only one pound a bowl!
A few personal anecdotes: I was in Central Paris during the "riots in Central Paris" and amazingly couldn't find a single burning car. I managed to survive the entire H1N1 pandemic without seeing a single person wearing a mask on the subway in NYC. I talked to some people who came back from Greece during the whole Greek riots, and there seemed to be nothing unusual going on in Athens.
Can some Londoners here on this forum upload some real pictures of this rioting that haven't been in the media? I suspect that this is just the usual 33 rent-a-goons battling 66-dial-a-thugs in front of movie-set storefront.
But hey, maybe London's burning.

Re: LONDON RIOTS
Well said... I never thought of this. To rent and take over shop when staging riots only makes sense. It allows for a number of bonuses: no real owner asking for better investigations on 'your' actor kids portrayed in the picture; a little insurance scam since you know in advance the shops will be robbed or destroyed; add better visual messages or change activities altogether to better fit the message you want to give. "Fruit & Veg" sounds more innocent and unjustly abused than a run-down "Luciano's internet cafe" whatever.fred wrote:They probably rented some vacant shop to use as their staging area. Here is another picture of the same stage area. More not so scary rioters here, who apparently are not worried to be identified and prosecuted tomorrow:

Compared to the unrenovated view in google, they must have taken over the western union shop too... added the "payzone" sign and updated the lottery sign... a little product placement...
Re: LONDON RIOTS
Here's yet another pic of that area:

With new pics cropping up (no pun intended ), the absurd-o-meter is climbing, I say:
Fun fun fun fun!
