How to embed videos in the forum pages

Videos can be embedded in our forum from a number of sources. Please read this topic to understand HOW, and consider carefully the goals of the forum when choosing IF it's a good idea to post it.

Please note that each video website follows its own rules as to what you should put between tags. Instructions follow here below.


Embedding from Youtube

1) Copy the video id.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cF0-nslm3j0

2) Put only this code: cF0-nslm3j0 between the [Youtube][/Youtube] tags.

Embedding from Vimeo

1) Copy the entire url.

2) Put it between the tags.

Embedding from Dailymotion

1) Copy the video id.

2) Put only this code: xmcy3u between the [Dailymotion][/Dailymotion] tags.






Embedding from Metacafe

1) Copy the entire url including the final slash.
https://www.metacafe.com/watch/793996/t ... hy_on_911/

2) Put it between the tags.

Embedding from Sendvid

1) Copy the video id.
http://sendvid.com/042q0gvz#

2) Put only this code: 042q0gvz between the [Sendvid][/Sendvid] tags.
Do not include the pound (#) sign.






Embedding from CNN

1) Copy the video file url.
https://pmd.cdn.turner.com/cnn/big/worl ... _1300k.mp4

2) Put it between the tags.





To get video file url with Firefox.

Right click video and select 'View Page Info'.
Select 'Media' tab and scroll down to video url.

Hopefully this method will work similarly on other platforms.

FYI: Instead than at the top of every page as I did at first, I put a link to this page directly in the post editor, to the right of the "embed videos" dropdown menu. The link opens in a new window/tab in order not to get in the way of the message you're editing.

you're right, something went wrong! I might have messed up something with those tags... trying to fix it... stay tuned...

I did it by taking the "s" out of "https://"

Each one is different, as posted above. For YouTube, for example, you don't put the whole URL, you just need the call number.

Just place a897sdnua90 between [youtube][/youtube].

For Vimeo, you will need http:// but https tries to call secure server, which I believe our site won't do.

(horrible, but sometimes helpful)

1) look for the last button as shown here, next to the video you want to embed:

2) click on it, look at the embed code. It's something like this:

<iframe width="416" height="234" src="http://edition.cnn.com/video/api/embed. ... s-orig.cnn" frameborder="0"></iframe>

3) just copy the url (in blue), and put it between the cnn tags:
