Re: Forum changes & updates
- finished updating the forum platform to the latest version, 3.0.10;
- cleaned up old invisionfree posts of code leftovers such as " target="_blank" class="postlink" appearing at the end of URLs;
- added a certain functionality for admin and mods in relation to IP numbers in use on the forum.

- Guest users (visitors who are not logged in) are now enabled to search the forum. Consequently, they will find in home page a new link: "view active topics", until now reserved to logged in members of the forum.

Re: Forum changes & updates
Notice to administrators and moderators:
I have implemented the possibility to upload attachment files from within a post. The files are saved on our server.
These include images, but also all kinds of files such as PDFs, ZIPs etc.
A brief explanation on how to use it is here: https://www.phpbb.com/support/documenta ... ttachments but it is pretty straightforward.
The files allow comments that are then presented as a caption in smaller font at the base of the file icon or the picture. But unfortunately links within the captions are not parsed so it can look messy with long links and less useful because links are not clickable.
Please test this functionality and let me know (better via PM or email) if everything goes well for you or not and what you make of it. Later we might allow selected members --or even all registered users-- to use this, although there are still things to figure out.
For example: attachments do not re-appear when quoted! Also, images cannot be hotlinked...
[EDIT: disregard the above. To quote an image in an earlier post, one just needs to right-click, copy the image location and put it among [img] tags. This will not work for newbies, but experienced users should be able to handle it. This method also works to hotlink images, even though the link does not look like a normal image link, yet it works. The magics of php...
I'm fighting for a better functionality here: https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... #p13289944]

Re: Forum changes & updates
Just switched CluesForum2 content over to CluesForum, and we're letting CluesForum2 expire next month. Until then, it redirects to here.

Re: Forum changes & updates
We are still working out some bugs in the database: hooking up to attachments, getting our small images working again, and so on, but I wanted to let you all know that we are back!
After days of cramming new information into our feeble minds, we have exported the database, migrated, chopped onions, shone flashlights, wrapped blankets and drank lots and lots of coffee.
And now we have this ... thing. It is just squeaking into place, and we shouldn't get too excited, but if you can all report bugs in the "suggestions" topic, I am sure we can quickly compile everything that has gone terribly wrong and work our way back toward making it right, or at least passable.
Take that, Murdoch!

Re: Forum changes & updates
Registration has now become less buggy. I am not sure if the whole registration process has been fixed since our move earlier this year (April or so) but if so, this means Simon can approve new members again. Sorry that this had only come to my attention recently. Apparently we just haven't had that many requests for membership? Or perhaps everyone who tried has been too embarrassed/annoyed/not-giving-enough-fucks to bother letting us know.
Anyhow, at least it doesn't throw the "CAPTCHA" error any more when you click "Register".

Added back "favicon" for that little icon that appears when storing sites in your bookmarks.

The forum was down due to NearlyFreeSpeech servers apparently buggin' out.
They're back. And now, so are we. Thanks.

Re: Forum changes & updates
Hey folks. Please do not be alarmed if CluesForum goes down for a bit. We dropped below $5 in our account recently and have sparse Internet access. We shall try to clear this as soon as possible. Probably within minutes.

Re: Forum changes & updates
Not exactly an update to the forum, but the front page of www.septemberclues.org just got a bit cleaned up.
As per wise (and well overdue) idea to make the movies available to download to a device, you should now be able to get September Clues and September Clues Addendum each as an AVI or MP4. Please let us know if you encounter any technical errors and we'll try to get that fixed right away.

Anti-bandwidth-leaching test:
"Jackpot" image
"No hotlinking" image (what leachers will see)
Alright, we may have a working block against "hot linking" now. This will prevent people linking directly to our images (and hence, some of our funds from leaking out the back door.) Instead, people can just download the images from our sites, save local copies, upload and spread the info without it all falling back on our pocketbooks.
Unfortunately, this may effect some pages that have previously linked to us. Please let us know if you notice a site encountering issues linking to our images. Thankfully, we have a pretty good grasp of .htaccess so it should be easy to debug in case of issues.
We have made exceptions for this site and Fakeologist. We should be able to eliminate this policy some day in the future, with any luck.
