Hurricane Sandy
Re: Hurricane Sandy
Re: Hurricane Sandy
Thanks for the proper embed, lux.
I agree, this either looks like miniatures or a simulation.
They really jumped the shark, so to speak with all that sand.
It's way too sandy that far inland for it to have arrived by either a Cat 1 or a Nor'easter.
If you told me it was the Sahara after a sandstorm, it would be more probable.
I went to various real estate sites and found quite a bit of property was foreclosed and for sale
all along this Jersey Shore. In any case, the residents, what were still living there at any rate, or not used exclusively as vacation homes, were forced to evacuate by the National Guard.
Also, that was a great heads up Mr. Sinclair from Fukushima-Diary about the subways.
Jim Cantore and Stephanie Abrams have been quite instrumental in hoaxing the damage.
First at The Battery trying to feign a highwater mark using 2x6s about 20 ft. from the seawall.
And then stating that a police officer told them the subways had 80ft. (later revised to 40ft.) of
water in them! Ol Jim had a live camera where he could have shown you this alleged water over the piece of plywood "boarding" up the subway, instead opting to show the viewing audience previously
shot "fake" footage of the turquoise water swamping the tunnels.
He already got caught hyping this once saying there were dangerous swells in the harbor only to have
a guy cruise up on a jet ski in front of the camera in gently rolling waves! Har!

Re: Hurricane Sandy
RF, I missed this when it was aired, so I'm keen to establish from you whether or not the 'hunting' effect that's evident in this clip is in some way an artifact from gif-looping or do we see here what was broadcast? The filmed shot appears to deviate in a repeated series of sideways slips, and some fewer similar vertical pseudo-corrections. Yet there's a median centre to all this curious bouncing, say a screen-quarter to the viewed right of the crane tower.reichstag fireman wrote:Here's ITV, the main commercial TV network in Britain, with its offering on the "crane collapse".
Again, the footage falls some way short on credibility.
If this were to have been a predictive "look guys, it's gonna fall" moneyshot, this would have been filmed from a tripod. Conversely, had this been taken as a snap-shot handicam grab, my expectation would have been for the deviation around the intended target to be figure-of-eight loops or even big corrected oval track movements, with reactive attempts to tighten the framing at the point when a fall was seen to be imminent.
Do we see here some harmless form of anti-bounce video image correction being applied (unlikely, maybe I'm trying to make charitable allowances for the broadcaster), or fabricated CG attempting to mimic that good-old live'n'lucky shot, the likes of which has been seen before in the City?
This feels odd, as viewed here. Did it convince more on-air?
ps RF/ other Brits, did anyone else see ITV's news segment last night about the NYC-marooned Welsh honeymoon couple? Did anyone record it? I found myself doubting the full realism of it. The repeated inserts of the stills, at the cake-cut...what was going on with the wraith/moire pattern above the knife? And the couple shot, post-vows...go all the way from the Valleys to the Big Apple, get your wedding pics shown on the telly, and the best that can found is a failed-flash 110 underexposed snap that looks ghastly...oh boyo

The frames are exactly as broadcast. Even the crude cropping is as it was shown live. I see what you mean by the 'hunting effect'. To be honest it had escaped my noticeicarusinbound wrote:RF, I missed this when it was aired, so I'm keen to establish from you whether or not the 'hunting' effect that's evident in this clip is in some way an artifact from gif-looping or do we see here what was broadcast?
Sure. We can validly speculate why the hunting is there..The filmed shot appears to deviate in a repeated series of sideways slips, and some fewer similar vertical pseudo-corrections. Exactly! To add realism. If this were to have been a predictive "look guys, it's gonna fall" moneyshot, this would have been filmed from a tripod. It's a very brief frame sequence (161 frames @ 25fps) and what with the irritating (double) commentary - half-muted American and British commentary - to be sure to clutter the viewers' thoughts, there wasn't much room left for questioning! This feels odd, as viewed here. Did it convince more on-air?
Sorry, I didn't see it, but will keep a watch for the footage. This would be the ITV1 (Late?) Evening News, Weds 31 Oct?ps RF/ other Brits, did anyone else see ITV's news segment last night about the NYC-marooned Welsh honeymoon couple? Did anyone record it? Re: Hurricane Sandy
Yesterday on french TV News, a journalist interviewed a french couple in Manhattan ( they were here for their holidays )
They said exactly : " we didn't see any signs of the Hurricane and the US TV accentuated all the events cause everything is fine here "
Funny interview

I have found the media's reports of where the storm hit and how severe to vary wildly.
One end of a boardwalk 'devastated' and a few yards down, in front of revamped property and
casinos virtually unscathed.
One town to the next Point Pleasant supposedly half buried in sand, while Cape May looks remarkably pristine. Both on the same side facing the Atlantic.

This video is showing the dumpy town of Point Pleasant in New Jersey that has zero paved roads (google earth it for yourself). All the roads were already sand before the storm. The video starts at the beginning of the town and conveniently stops right before the town ends. That town was completely evacuated before the storm.

Re: Hurricane Sandy
A typical Point Pleasant (dirt) road leading to the beach!
It seems the huts are just resting on the sand.
I am amazed that the whole village didn't blow away!

Replica HMS Bounty sunk by Storm Sandy
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/ne ... sandy.html
Various layered strangeness in this story...haven't yet managed to find any decent pictures to subject to ELA. Captain was apparently desperate to sail the ship towards Florida- as you do, in the face of a Carribean storm- he is now missing at sea. Lots of classic tags- Captain believed the ship was safer at sea than in port, ship extensively used as a Hollywood movie set, female crew-member drowned.
Captain Jack Sparrow has been aboard the ship- perhaps he's at the helm now?
Heiwa, a harmless sad nautical misadventure, or something darker??

And here we read of 111 homes destroyed when fire began about 11PM. So bad it reminded one poor soul of
WWII.

Probably lack of maintenance and a rotten hull? Ship was apparently built of wood but who knows? It was just a movie prop.icarusinbound wrote:.
