It was for me too. Too much publicity from two radio shows I guess. ;)

Here's the curt response I finally got from our Swedish server this afternoon:
Hi,

Sorry about the downtime, your web page is online again now. The server
will be more stable now.
Very informative!

I would not worry too much. Server is in an abandoned atomic bomb shelter (for locals)/military HQ inside a mountain of northern Sweden where, surprisingly, it snows this time of year and power lines are cut south/north and roads are blocked and, surprisingly, local repair crews cannot get out because it snows and, after all, it is nicer to stay inside. :)

I was baby sitting my grandchild this evening but the mother/my daughter didn't show up at the right time. The cable TV (Gully Ch 18 for kids) then suddenly stopped - no connection - so we played some old fashioned games after dinner. Daughter called and said car - brand new Audi - didn't start. Audi, good service, sent somebody to kick-start the car to get to the garage (around the corner) to investigate. I was told the car is controlled by satellite that had stopped the car! :o Audi still tries to call the satellite to allow the car to run. TV? I haven't bothered to see if it works. I seldom watch TV. Strange world. Maybe snowing somewhere.

Simply "why" is the question I would be asking the webhost! Aren't they in breach of contract or some such?
Failure to provide the service that was paid for, without the courtesy of an explanation!

We are sorry that your webpage wasn't available! A-holes.

PRQ answered an unrelated question to why the servers are down -- but nothing yet on what actually causes us to be out of service.

Simon, nonhocapito and I are working on transferring the forum. Don't fret.

Wasn't the recent down time coincident with the starting of the Newtown thread?

For the record, here are three 'concidental' (MAJOR) downtimes CLUESFORUM has endured so far:

- A few hours after the alleged OSLO bombing (the Breivik affair)

. A few minutes after the start of the last broadcast of the final SPACE SHUTTLE launch (STS135)

- A few hours (or less) after the alleged NEWTOWN 'massacre'
