Swiss shooting: reality or redux?

Unread post by icarusinbound »

Gun control agenda promotion via disinfo theatrics, or a simple shooting?

http://uk.reuters.com/article/2013/01/0 ... 3120130103
(Reuters) - A gunman killed three women and wounded two men late on Wednesday in the Swiss village of Daillon, opening fire from his apartment then pursuing the attack in the street, Swiss officials said.

The 33-year-old gunman, who has not been named, threatened police when they tried to arrest him and was shot in the chest before being arrested and taken to hospital, police in the Swiss canton of Valais said on Thursday. No police officers were wounded.
Timing is everything. Hmm...I wonder?

The shooting is likely to stir a fresh debate about Switzerland's fire arms laws that allow its male citizens to retain guns after their mandatory military service.
"Stir" ... "fresh" debate? A nonsensical metaphor frequently employed by the media to say: here's the debate - talk about it!

People love to be updated on the latest discussion. Good thing the news is there to tell us what the latest discussion has been in secret circles for the last few years. Now that there's been a decision on how to direct people on the topic behind closed doors, the rest of us get to talk about it! Yippee!!

And thank goodness there's a juicy gossippy gruesome tale to "stick" the discussion in the current dialogue, whether we want to be talking about their point or not.

Whew, thank goodness we don't have to think for ourselves on any topic anymore since the news is doing it for us! What a lucky break!

Huh?
Switzerland's fire arms laws that allow its male citizens to retain guns after their mandatory military service.
His only previous conviction was for marijuana use.
Police said the gunman used at least two firearms - an old Swiss army carbine and a rifle capable of firing lead shot - even though his weapons had been seized and destroyed in 2005, and he was not currently listed as having any guns.
There is no national gun register ...
Why were his guns "seized and destroyed" in 2005? For marijuana use? How can he be "not listed as having any guns" if there is "no national gun register"?

The shielding and wordplay they have to employ to carry across information (while misleading about where the information comes from) is sometimes hilarious.

There is no register, but "some sources" tell us ...

A disembodied discussion is forming, but we'll present no research or back up information about the background of the discussion ...

Here are the facts, but we just don't know where they came from!

It's written like a typical PsyOp public hit piece from the horse's mouth. And it took four (?!) journalists to follow the orders of their masters.
(Writing by Tom Miles; Additional reporting by Emma Farge; Editing by Mohammad Zargham/Ruth Pitchford)
What do these credits mean? Is writing the same as reporting? If not, why is Emma "Additional reporting"? Who is actually the source of any of this information? It's not my favorite credit by far, however, which is "Associated Press" or something completely cryptic and untraceable.

I've been thinking lately that the doubletalk language of the press is, in itself, a worthy topic for a thread. It is so hilariously crooked! But, the rubes have become so accustomed to it that they never notice. It's the art of linguistic fakery and deception and of making something out of nothing with words.

"He began firing from his apartment, shooting at people in the street and in neighbouring buildings, but later came out into the street, police said, adding that he appeared to have fired more than 20 shots."

"...estimates indicate that at least one in every three of Switzerland's 8 million inhabitants keeps a gun."

The shooting obviously took place over a period of some minutes, yet there wasn't enough time for one of the many armed citizens to grab some heat and stop this Swiss movement in its tracks? Just wondering.

Yes, great idea. However, a reliable source within the community claimed that seeing as pretty much every sentence written or spoken by the press contains hilariously crooked doublespeak, a thread like that could quickly become larger than the whole forum and block out the sun. And your beloved rubes still wouldn't notice.
